You too, Ilyn. Hope to get some reading done today. I'm still reading _Gilead_ and _Red Hot_.I'm on page 186 in the book, _Gilead_, and there's still no plot. LOL I'm waiting! (g) Somehow I can't stop reading the meanderings of this old minister who is writing a letter to his grandson, a letter to be read perhaps many years in the future.
_Red Hot_ is a mystery about stolen art and a suspected murder. The hook is in. I'm on p. 70 and am enjoying the relaxed writing style of the author, Audrey Friend. A pleasant personality shines through.
Hi Jackie! What a nice surprise! How long have you lived in the Lake George area? We camped on the islands for 25 years and then we retired to the North Country from downstate in 1991. We love it here. See my photos at the following website:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

9 years in January.I love it here too, I don't think I'll go downstate ever again.
Where are you from downstate?
I'm originally from NYC area. And I have the horrid accent to prove it, LOL
I work on the Lake, I restore antique wooden boats for Hall's. Your pix show off the beauty of Lake George perfectly!
I love it here, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Hi Jackie,I'm from Putnam County downstate. We retired to the Lake George area in 1991. I have a bit of a NYC accent too. (g) We should get together and listen to each other. (lol)
What a coincidence about Halls Marina! I was there in October just looking around. I took photos. Below is a link to some of the pics I took:

You can see Million Dollar Beach in the distance in one of the pics.
The bookshelf at my group has a section about Lake George books. See:

There are other tags for books about the local area. I'm sure you own most of them! :)
Greetings, Lucille. Nice to meet you.How did you find this Happy & Brainy Group? (I love that name!) (grin)
Best wishes,
Joy
Joy, those pics are awesome, shows off what a beautiful place it is. Especially in the Fall!I love Hall's and my work there.
I'm going to tell my friends here at goodreads to have a look at your pix.
I'm not much into local history. Though, I have read The Last of the Mohicans. My foreman's brother is a living breathing local history afficionado, he's my source for all things Lake George.
Hi Jackie - I'm so glad you enjoyed my pics.I haven't read The Last of the Mohicans, but I've read a lot about it. We visited Cooper's Caves in South Glens Falls last summer. Have you been there? If not, you must go and feel the history.
As for local Lake George history, let me know what you find out about Sabbath Day Point. We have a vacation house there.
I buy the Lake George books for my husband who loves the area and reads about it, since he enjoys non-fiction. I'd like to meet your foreman's brother. I'll bet we could all have fun talking while sitting on a bench on Beach Road looking at the lake. (g) My favorite place! (grin)
Hi Joy! Ilyn invited me to join. Btw, I saw the pics you took at Halls Marina and they were all great. I like the last photo overlooking the lake and the mountain. The leaves of some trees are orange. Is it because autumn is coming?
Joy,I walk along the Lake everyday with my dog. If you see us, stop us, you'll know Juneau because he's big and he's beautiful, everyone stops to meet him. I can't go to the beach in the summer because it takes hours to walk that little stretch of road with so many people stopping us.
I'm wondering if you know Howard already, he lives in Glen's Falls and used to work with us at Hall's. Very cool guy.
Yes, Lucille, autumn has come and gone... or at least it's on its way out. Most of the leaves are down now. We have one month to wait until it officially becomes winter.Below is a link to more autumn photos on Lake George: ===>

Autumn is a gorgeous time of year in the New England states of northeastern U.S.
Jackie, I'll look for you and Juneau when I walk along Beach Road. I don't think I know Howard. You're lucky to be so near Beach Road. It's one of my favorite places. You've probably already seen my photos of Million Dollar Beach. But just in case you haven't, here's the link: ===>

Also, below is a link to pics I took of scenes around Beach Road in Lake George Village:

It's hard to resist taking pictures with such beautiful scenery all around.
Jackie,I've been meaning to ask you what you know about that boat in Hall's parking lot. Below is a link to the photo of it: ===>

The boat has such a pretty shape.
Lucille, I meant to tell you that our son went to the Philippines several years ago. His friend married a very sweet girl from the Philippines. Our son brought back some souvenirs. One was a miniature Philippine taxi, very colorful.
Joy, I just saw the pictures. They're really lovely. I like the ambiance of the place. It seems so serene. I experienced autumn once in Turkey. I was 12 years old. But, I never really appreciated it. When I saw your pics, I realized I missed out on the beauty of autumn. I'd like to experience it again ,but this time, I'm gonna savor it. I can picture myself spending the day in the park of the town dock reading a really good and romantic novel. If not in the park, on the small island in the middle of the lake. (Sigh) What a dream! Hope it comes true :)Btw, cute dog ;)
I love all the photos of Lake George. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.I don't know anything about the boat in the lot, it's probably just being stored. I don't notice the fiberglass boats because I don't work on them. You can call and ask them about it, they are always happy to answer boat questions.
Lucille - Yes, we've found so much tranquillity on and around Lake George. Out on the islands we feel so remote from the rush of civilization. Of course, when it rains and the wind is cold, it loses a lot of its charm. We used to play cards in the screen tent on rainy days when we were camping. We have some good memories.I'm sure you have many lovely spots in the Philippines. At least you don't have to deal with the snow and ice we're expecting tonight in Glens Falls, NY. Keep dreaming but enjoy what you have too. At least you've been to Turkey. I don't fly. So I haven't been across the ocean, except for taking a cruise ship to Bermuda in 1994.
Jackie, you and my son would have a lot to talk about. He has a 35' steel sailboat which he's always working on. He keeps it on the Hudson River across from NYC. He once built his own dinghy from scratch. He was born in 1965. So he's almost your age.Our own boat needs its seats re-upholstered. It's a 1986 19' Glastron with a small cabin. They don't make many 19 footers with cabins these days. So I want to keep the boat. When I was at Halls, someone recommended a place in Lake George which does that sort of work. But my husband keeps postponing the upholstering. So we just cover the seats with terry cloth covers. Not too fancy!
The man they recommended is fabulous, he does excellent work. We use him all the time and his prices are reasonable. I think the name is Carriage something or other?
Yes, that's the name, Jackie. I called him and he told us his location, but my husband wasn't ready to get the seats upholstered because the boat was already put away in the garage and winterized. He didn't want to disturb it. Maybe next spring when he takes the boat out and readies it for the water, we'll think about getting the seats done. I hope so. I hope I can find the directions he gave me. I'll have to look for his phone number again.
The shop is located on his home property.I wouldn't want to disturb it either since it's already winterized and put away. Spring will be soon enough. It'll be so nice to see them when they are done. I love how everything looks when the work is completed. It makes me happy an it's worth all the effort we put into it. When we're finished, I stand back, and admire our work.
Yes, Jackie, I'm looking forward to seeing newly upholstered seats in our boat. I can imagine the satisfaction you get from your work.I've got my dining room table all ready for Thanksgiving. I, too, enjoy admiring how everything looks. Too bad we have to mess it up with food and dirty dishes. (lol)
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I know, LOL. I love to look at the turkey and everything around it. It really is beautiful. Got my turkey started...can't wait to sit down and enjoy it!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Ilyn! Yes, the turkey smells so delicious... and the stuffing too. I usually stuff myself with too much stuffing. "He who stuffeth, puffeth." :)
Just thought I'd drop by and say hi.I'm keeping busy with so many things, lots of irons in the fire! (g)
I guess we're all very busy, especially at this time of year.
Hey Joy! Christmas is around the corner. what will your family be doing on Christmas day? How are you going to celebrate Christmas? Here in the Philippines, Christmas season starts as early as September. We call the months September to December BER Months. We decorate our houses, trees and even our fences with christmas lights. We have very bright lanterns because of the lights also.
This year, it's not that bright here in the Philippines and our celebration is kinda late. I think it's because of economic problems.
But, whatever happens, it's still Jesus Christ's Birthday. I remember the first Christmas. Mary is about to give birth to Jesus ,but there are no rooms in the inns. God is still born, even if it's just in a stable with sheep and horses. Even when it also means wrapped in some cloth and lying on a manger. It is a very humbling but blessed night. Our Savior is still born. He doesn't even wait for a room to be available. He doesn't even wait for just one more night. For God, there is no time to waste. He will save us. What an awesome God we have! :)
Hi Lucille,We have our creche up to remind us of that story of the Christchild.
I love the lights of the holidays. I wouldn't mind at all if they started in September.
The kids will all be here for Christmas. They stay overnight. We'll be eleven people altogether including the 4 grandchildren. I still have a lot to do to get ready.
Happy holidays to you, Lucille! What will you be doing?
Hi Joy! I spent Christmas with my family. We celebrated mass on the 24th day (I'm Catholic). And then, on 25th, we had a family reunion meaning like a family clan. New Year here in the Philippines is pretty noisy. Filipinos have adapted Chinese tradition of lighting fire crackers. The first 30 min to 1 hour of the new year is the loudest. What about there, in your part of the world? This is very educational. We get know different cultures :D
Hi Lucille. I love fire crackers. Are yours colorful too or do they only make noise?I'm trying to think if I ever hear fire crackers on New Years here in the USA. I'll have to pay attention. It hasn't been a strong tradition here, as far as I know.
Now I remember that on TV at midnight on New Year's Eve, we can watch New Years celebrations all around the world. There are plenty of beautiful fireworks on the screen.
The big time for fireworks here in the USA is Independence Day, July 4.
The fire crackers are beautiful. Like disney, they are very colorful. There is a fire cracker that shapes into a smiley face, it's round with eyes nose and smiling mouth. I haven't seen it yet but my friends have. i'm looking forward to seeing it this coming new year's eve. There are fire crackers that are just purely noisy and loud. I don't like those.

Just dropping by to say hello. I haven't forgotten this great group. I'm just short of time at this point. But I wanted to keep in touch.
Best wishes to all.
