I know right! They've done a really good job so far of mixing the magical elements of stories we love but telling a compelling story. I love the way they've tweaked the fairy tale stories. ~Annabell

Recap/Review: On the second episode of Once Upon A Time, the story ventures deeper into the evil Queen’s side of the story. In order for the evil Queen to destroy the happiness of everyone in the Enchanted Forest she would need to release the Black curse. But the Queen is no longer in possession of the power because she gave it up to Maleficent (the evil Queen from Sleeping Beauty) in order to gain Maleficent’s Sleeping curse. Maleficent though, will not give up the curse without a fight but the evil Queen manages to overpower Maleficent and break the curse free. Maleficent warns her though that there are consequences to such power that even they must obey, if she releases the curse she will be consumed with a void she will never be able to fill.
In order to enact the curse, the evil Queen summons the ones with the most blackest of souls and has them each give her a lock of their hair which she throws into a fire pit along with the heart of the horse she loved most. The evil Queen gains the black curse but the power isn’t working.
Back in our world, Emma is trying to figure out whether Henry is telling the truth or just a disturb kid with a messed up adoptive mother. She grows increasingly protective of Henry, especially after Regina subtly threatens her again with a basket of apples. Emma heads to Henry’s therapist where he gives her his case file so Emma can better understand Henry. After Emma leaves, the therapist calls Regina who already had a plan in the works and has the sheriff arrest Emma under the charge that she stole the files. She tries to turn Henry against Emma by telling him Emma stole the doctor’s files only to find information on them because she is a con woman. Naturally, Henry calls her out on her lie and takes off after Emma.
Emma is bailed out from jail by Margret (Snow White) and continues her hunt to find out what’s really going on with Henry’s adoptive mother while at the same time going toe to toe with her as Regina keeps trying to force Emma to leave.
My Own Thoughts I love the constant clash between dark and light in the episodes so far. I really liked learning more about how the evil Queen became so evil. It was a nice twist to see the story from her point of view and to see that she had had a heart once, before she allowed her quest for vengeance over take her life. I also really enjoy the nuggets of wisdom given from the characters: Rumpelstiltskin telling the Queen with great power comes great sacrifice or the Queen’s father telling her revenge will not fill the void she has. There are moments when the graphics are a bit cheesy or the acting is a bit overdone but for the most part, the show is doing a great job!
Fantasy lovers should definitely check the show out!
Important Scenes:
• Origins of the Black Curse Turns out the Evil Queen got the Black Curse from Rumpelstiltskin. She goes to see him when the Black Curse doesn’t work and Rumpelstiltskin tells her that she must sacrifice the heart of someone she loves most. The Evil Queen gives a glimpse into why she is so set out against getting revenge on Snow White when be revealing that Snow White was the one who took her happiness from her. He also tells her that the Black Curse can be broken by Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter. So the Queen trades giving Rumpelstiltskin a life of luxury and agrees to heed to every request he has in the new land (our world) in order to get the information she needs to release the Black Curse.
• What the Queen Loved Most: The Black Curse demands the Queen sacrifice what she loves most and turns out who she loves most is her father who also happens to be her main go to servant. The Queen’s father tries to convince her to move past her need for revenge and trust that she will find happiness again; they can do it together. But the Queen can’t move past her rage and kills her father in order to sacrifice his heart to the Black Curse.
• Emma Learns Who Snow White is: When Emma walks Henry to school she finds out Henry believes his teacher Margret is really Snow White which is a shock to Emma’s system because Henry believes Emma is the daughter of Snow White.
Favorite Moments/Scenes/Revealtions:
• When Emma is released from jail, she heads to Regina’s house and hacks down a part of her precious apple tree with a chain saw.
• Henry, Emma’s son, was named after the Evil Queen’s own father.
• Rumpelstiltskin pays Regina (Evil Queen) a visit. He tells Regina she can always go to him for help to get rid of Emma but she will have to pay a price. Regina declines and Rumpelstiltskin casually asks about Henry’s name, where did she get it from. Regina knows Rumpelstiltskin is hiding something important from her. She demands to know where Rumpelstiltskin found Henry and who Emma is but Rumpelstiltskin refuses to answer her, biting into an apple and walking away.
Swoon Alert: Jamie Dornan! He plays Sheriff Graham and makes more of an appearance in the second episode. Let me tell you, he is easy on the eyes!! Yes ma’m! And those baby blue eyes, tousled brown hair with that Irish accent *faint*
