Sashana If months could be defined in one word, January’s word would be 'new.' This month we are unveiling our newest feature, the Books to Movies Database/Calendar (BMDC). To learn more about this feature and what we're hoping to achieve then click here.

What do you get when you add one of the 'greatest writers in the English language', a vampire warrior, a light-heated bounty hunter, and a grief stricken mother? Box office gold! Below are some of the book-to-movies releases for January 2012. We have a little bit of everything: a classic, Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy, and Chick Lit. (*NOTE: The book covers are on the left and the movie posters are on the right. Also, these are US release dates; some of the movies are being released in the US, hence the ( )*. This feature can also be used as a resource for the Read It Before You See It Challenge and the Books to Movies Challenge)

We'd like to know...
1. If you've read a book listed, and if you'll see it.

2. If you've read the book and seen the movie:
a. Did you like the book?
b. Did you like the movie?
c. Did the movie do the book justice

*You don't have to answer these questions, but it's a nice way to get the conversation going.

Sashana I know! Next time though ;)

Sashana I read One for the Money and I plan to see the movie. I thought it was a funny book and I hope the movie can capture the humor (the grandmother was a laugh a minute). I want to read Underworld and see the first movie but I can't find the book in my library, you'd think they'd have a copy but no such luck.

message 10: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments My library doesn't have it either. :(

Shay | 923 comments My son is a fan of the Underworld movies. Well, he's more of a fan of Kate Beckinsale in tight leather pants. I was looking forward to Coriolanus- like Shakespeare's play and this play is rarely done in America, at least. But, once I found out Gerard Butler was in it... I do have reservations about seeing a Gerard Butler movie, so I'll wait for reviews.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I've read several of Shakespeare's works, but not Coriolanus by William Shakespeare . Wouldn't you know it; there is a wait list for it now at the library. LOL!

Sashana You don't like Gerard Butler? Say it ain't so! I love him and his accent. Plus, he's really easy on the eyes *wipes drool*

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Uh, oh...I don't care for Butler. *ducks*

message 16: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I thought we had something special, Carol! Guess I was wrong *sniffle* But seriously, what don't you guys like about him?

message 17: by A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (last edited Dec 21, 2011 02:55PM) (new)

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) *scratches head* I'm really not sure. I love Viggo Mortensen though. What about him? Or Robert Downey, Jr now that he's got his act together. Oh! And Matt Damon is such a cute teddy bear. lol Don't tell hubby I have a crush on David Boreanaz, too. We've been watching 'Bones'. LOL

I find his acting painful, usually. I find his singing even more so. My son dragged me to see "Gamer" and after that... There's just something about him that gives the impression he smells of stale cigarettes, sweat, and old underwear. Like a nightclub public toilet that hasn't been cleaned in a while.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Butler is ok, but I agree with Carol- Robert Downey Jr. all the way. I have loved him since I was a kid.

Sashana I think you guys are mental. I can't stand Robert Downey Jr. but to each her own I guess.

Shay, I feel that way about Johnny Depp. I can almost smell the cigarette and corn chips smell wafting off him.

Sashana In the trailer for One for the Money Stephanie says, "You made out with me on my wedding day," to Joe. I don't remember her being married in the book. Was she?

Yes, very briefly, but got divorced after she found her new hubby doing Joyce on the dining room table. I don't remember her ever saying she and Morelli made out at her wedding. Need to re-read it. It's been a few years.

edit: The books started after her divorce.

Sashana Hmmm time for a reread for me too. I do remember her being married now, I just don't remember Joe kissing her at the wedding. I remember him trying to feel her up in his garage when they were younger.

message 24: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (pebblesy) I've read one for the money and I'm not sure about the movie... I'm really not happy with the casting of Ranger - he is supposed to be Rambo with long hair, not who he is... Also, I read it recently enough to know that the kiss on the wedding day didn't happen at all. Just the "trains" in the garage at age 6 and then the cherry popping on the bakery floor ;)

Still going to have to see it though as it looks like a fun film, just need to go in remembering it can't be like the book.

message 25: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I remember the book well and everything Suzanne said is the truth.

message 26: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Anyone going to see One for the Money soon?

message 27: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'd really love to. Don't know if I'll make it to the theater.
