I'm a bad mod!! with everything going on this last month, I forgot to put up a thread for nominations!!

so what do you guys want to read in January?

I'll leave nominations open until the 4th, and then we'll vote through the 9th (and hopefully you guys will have a chance to get the book).

I'd like to nominate a Henning Mankell stand-alone novel, The Man from Beijing.
If we're also going to read an "Author of the Month", my nomination goes to K. O. Dahl.

Read this book in 2010 and thought it a very exciting read.  I can well imagine such things happened in some groups while building the railways in NA....there are such bullies and thugs everywhere that when given a bit of power or a uniform can turn into such cruel animals.  Imagine what would happen if this type of family loyalty revenge took place ..... As with a lot of Henning Mankell stand alone books, this was IMO, a very very good read.

The Man from Beijing........Just watched the film made from the book over the holidays ARD television.  Excellent.  Der Chinese......is a new just out joint production Sweden Germany Austria and with wonderful Yellowbird involved.  Very exciting to watch and everything from scenes, acting, locations and music was IMO excellent. Keep an eye out for it.  Sure a DVD would have subtitles.  Amazes me the excellent series and films the Germans make of so many of the  excellent Scandinavian books .  Wish my language skills were better.

I noted the vote on the poll and went ahead and got started on this. Half-way through and I'm sort of up in the air about the book right now.

I liked Sun Storm well enough but I loved the next 2 in the series.

Finished Sun Storm last night. I'll be interested to see how Larsson developed the character of Rebecka Martinsson in subsequent books. This seems to be of a different ilk than past reads, since it lacked the strength of a lead detective guiding the development of the plot. Not as good as some other books I've read lately, but I'll give the series another go in the future.

I'm in the middle of Larsson's 4th in the series, Until Thy Wrath Be Past which I'm loving.

Read Sun Storm last year and quite enjoyed it. Agree that Until Thy Wrath be Past is a much more enjoyable read finished it a fortnight ago.

I just grabbed The Blood Split. I am SO far behind with this group! :/

Me too, thought we were reading Mind's Eye....working on it on kindle but hard going! Dutch and German and Swedish names and place names mostly German...very confused or confusing!

Good to know I was thinking about getting Misteriso(?) for the kindle..I think I will grab the hard copy from the library.

I think Mind's Eye is the 'other' group's read for this month, b/c I read it a couple of weeks ago. I finished Sun Storm and am half through with Mankell's The Man who Smiled. It's been a great month for Scandinavian/Nordic Crime Fiction/Noir!

I probably will too, once I get going! At 17% so just probably seems strange. Very happy to see translator from many Wallander books.

I just love the HN series, although his last one was pretty odd. It takes so long for his books to get translated.

HN = Hakan Nesser, right? I agree in your assessment of Mind's Eye and I'm looking forward to reading all of these eventually. Glad to know you're such a big fan!

Will we have a Feb read?

I downloaded Nesser's Mind's Eye 2009, Kindle for iPad then found rest of his better value on iBook store, so have them all...

I downloaded Asa Larsson, all four of hers. Again iBook and read Sun Storm yesterday and started The Blood Spilt today....good reading.

Like both writers. Really enjoyed Mind's Eye.... Love HN writing style...so sparse. AL way more detail and description but keeps going at such a good pace, do not want to stop. One happy reader am I!
