How did you rate the book?

message 2: by Alisha (new)

Alisha Rivera | 145 comments I'd give it a 4.5, which I rounded up to a 5 on goodreads.

First part was pretty slow for me, but it picked up in parts 2 and 3, and I ended up actually being grateful for all the backstory.

I gave it a 4.5 also, but left it a 4 on Goodreads.
Same reasons as Alisha above.

Woohoo! Just finished! I rated this one a 4. I thought the writing was very good, the characters were fantastic, and Truly was "truly" (heh) a memorable character. However, I couldn't give it a 5, as there wasn't enough story to pull me effortlessly through. I'm not someone who thinks a novel needs a nice, neat plot, but I felt like we meandered too much in Truly's consciousness. And OH MY GOODNESS, why over 100 pages of precious Serena Jane backstory if we don't even get to see the freaking reunion? I mean, yeah, it's a little Oprah-y, but even Alice Walker's The Color Purple gives us a reunion.

Julie | 168 comments I would give it a 4. I enjoyed the story and it kept my interest, but I don't think it will be one of those books I am "haunted" by moving forward. And yes being "haunted" by a book can be a good thing for me, sometimes.

Lauren | 251 comments I'm planning to give it a three (I just finished it this evening). Some engaging parts, but I found some of the characters blah and parts of the plot were too flat for my taste (I know, I come across as the eternal pessimist in this group).
