Nicolle I have ordered this but not sure when it will arrive. Start without me. :)

Toni (tonibb) | 4 comments I really enjoyed this book and the film too. Read it years ago. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

Lindsay Nichols | 44 comments I love the fact that every incarnation of Hitchhiker's is different. The radio plays, books, TV series and film all have similar bits and characters, but they are all wonderfully quirky individual items!

Lorraine | 1 comments Doing a reread and loving each page!

Carrie (carrieaj) So good. For me it was new, refreshing and fun to read. I plan to continue on with this series.

Trisha I just got my copy from the library and I am very excited to crack it open. it is a book that I have always wanted to read, but yet never got around to. I've heard that its fun and entertaining, so I'm looking forward to it!

I also read this book years ago and liked it very much.

HB Jones (HBJones) | 4 comments This is a fantastic book. I read it years ago and my kids love it and the movie too.

RedMum Yes, a brilliant book.

Trisha I read it, but I did not love it as much as I thought I would. Sci-fi isn't really my genre, and I found the story to be a little....silly. I know that it is supposed to be a funny story, but it had a slap-stick sort of feel about it, which isn't really my thing in books or films.

Sam (sam_the_sham) Just got this book for my birthday and I LOVE it. So witty.

Martin Gibbs It is a great book and quite an inspiration for the bizarro stuff I write from time to time. The movie was well done, but not perfect. I did laugh, but not as much as with the book.

Bev (greenginger) | 296 comments I vaguely recall the radio show (yes I know olde farte pants) and was blown away. I read the books years ago and the whole series still makes me laugh. Note this is not one to read to self if on public transportation......

Igor great book! i was smiling all the time when I was reading, especially on the first part,...the radio show is also great, the BBC TV series is very good, but the american movie is awful :(

J.D. Hughes (jdhughes) | 7 comments Sad that Douglas Adams died so relatively young - HGTTG was mould breaking in its time and so very funny.

'The Long Dark Teatime Of The Soul' and 'So Long and Thanks For All The Fish' are also worth a look if you want to read a truly eccentric British writer.

The latest film was rubbish, but the original radio show and the BBC TV series are wonderful (Yep, I'm an olde farte pants too!) The TV series stands out for its absolutely pathetic special effects, reminiscent of early Doctor Who or Series 1 Star Trek. Marvellous!

Igor Yeah JD,I agree with U

Mes I read this book last summer and I really liked it. In fact many of my friends are into that 42 thing - whenever they see 42 they go crazy

Robin LMD Sure I had heard the title many times in passing, so when I repeatedly came across positive reviews on Goodreads and then stumbled upon The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy (all the stories in one omnibus edition) for sale for a quarter at the library, I snapped it up faster than the Heart of Gold. I laughed with every page turn of the first story and now that The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is our June science fiction pick, I am delighted to read on along with the group. Meet you at Milliways.

R.M.F. Brown I'm in the funny position of detesting this book, but absolutely loving Dirk Gently, even though it's the same author and the same brand of humour.

Barbm1020 | 57 comments Before I knew about the book(s) we heard the radio plays on NPR, back in the 80's. Then there was the British TV movie/miniseries on PBS. Then there were the books. I loved it all, but was often confused as to whether a linear plot was actually discoverable in it or just something I kept hoping to find. I thought the American movie version was absolutely wonderful and much easier to follow than any other version. That said, a really good book is always worth revisiting and for me, this series certainly qualifies.
