Self Challenge - Loving our Authors
I am definitely going to try to read more! But probably not as much as 25 - must get my bought books out of the way first :D
It's a kids book Lorraine (not for really young kids though adults can enjoy it too!) and no gore at all but I really enjoyed it. There is a sequel to it so if you like it that could m=be 2 more for your list
Mark Faulkner's FluxHarry Nicholson's Tom Fleck
Jon Rosenberg's The Unicorn Crisis and its follow-up
Nell Grey's Solstice- short stories
And of course - anything by Cornelius Harker!
Thats a good idea Lorraine, I couldn't find the bit you said about being able to join the challenge on Goodreads so I have set myself a target of 100 & I will put them into a collection on my kindle when I have read them so I won't loose count. Setting an extra challenge by reading so many by our own authors it makes it a bit more interesting, if you don't mind I will borrow your idea & do the same, I wasn't having much luck thinking of one on my own. Thats if you don't mind of course.
Seb Kirby's Take No MoreCarl Ashmore's The Time Hunters and its follow up
Abiding Evil by Alison Buck
There are so many to choose from but these just pop into mind.
I have read lots of books by the authors in the forum,Kindle is charging at present,I will have a look for some recommendations for you Lorraine.
You have to add something by Darren Humphries to your list. I love just about everything he has written, so I won't pick out just one.
New York City Legend, thats literature too, but I haven't finished it yet. However, if the rest is as good as the first half its wonderful.
Stormwreck is a must, I still have not read any others by Darren but The Sword in the Tree will be one I read, any other suggestions?
Oh my ! So many choices !Well part of doing the live events means that I need to read those particular authors, just something I've decided (got to come up with some questions too !)
So Darren's already on the list, and so is Mhairi when hers come along.
I made it my resolution to read Carl's books too. But then there are so many other ! Pffffffff ! And I was hoping this would help me narrow my choices down lol !
Nevermind, I'll either have to read more or leave some for next year !
There are so many! do you think we should read only 1 from each author or as many as you like? Noted Ignite, thank you.
I'd say as many as you like is OK Anita, but I feel like I would be fairer by doing one book each... but then you'll be reading a lot more than me so it's up to you !So now, apart from being my drinking buddy you're also my challenge buddy too ? Coool !
Thats about it Lorraine, I need guidence, I am so tired, tonight is the first time for 3 weeks that I have not got visitors or lodgers depending how you look at it, the house is quiet, no one wants feeding, even Roy is stuffed, so I need a helping hand from my pals & as always it is being provided in fine style, I am just too tired to think. I will do 1 book each to start with, there that was easy to work out,( I like rules it makes things clearer)so you are stuck with me for now,( I usually come round by the end of March so it's not too long) I know Ollie will still be up but how about a small glass of Baileys, just a little one at this time. Cheers!
Oh defiantly Lorraine, thats the beauty of drinking this way it can do anything you want it to do, in fact have a bit more & you will feel fighting fit!
glurp glurp thanks Anita ! xRisking a fall in the shower now... slippery floor and being tipsy don't go together !
Slippery floor has now got grips so it very safe for you now. Can't have you falling can we now.
Hope headache is going by now.
I might join you in this one too Lorraine. I went for 30 books this year, but I might extend that when I see how it goes because I plan to read more short stories too.So, 20 out of the 30 I plan to be from "our" authors.
I'd be tempted to say I'll only read from our authors this year, but there are a few books I have bought from the daily deal and the recent sales that I know I want to read. And if The Night Circus gets a price drop soon then I will be adding that one too.
Yea I wouldn't mind going 100% "our authors" but I want to allow for things like monthly selection and all that, who might not be... And now looks like Terry Pratchett is joining the list too anyway lol !Good luck with your challenge Maureen x
It'd be great if the authors of all the books I've downloaded would join our group. Then I'd only be reading 'our' authors. One of the many 'best things' about the our group is having a chance to get to know the authors of the books I've enjoyed and even loved.
Yes, it's a totally different experience, lasts longer than the "pick up the book-read the book-put the book down" effect :)
Lorraine I just checked my archive and was shocked to find that in past 6 months I have read 35 books by 24 of 'our authors'. There are another 10 I am not sure about so I am off to check the authors thread!I have read 67 in total on Kindle, not sure re DTB's.

What a great idea! I've already grabbed a few for the next few weeks, but I'm going to troll the 'our amazon store' page for the group and seek out a few more from this group.
Great Thea, don't forget to do a thread of your own or to come on here to let us know how you get on, good luck !
Yes certainly Lorraine.I have only read one book this year by a so called published author and I abandoned it.I was so disappointed.I can honestly say that though I have enjoyed some of my 'indie' books more than others I have never abandoned one or been disappointed.
I'll have to make a count from last year and see the ratio, will put it on here when I've worked it out - headache won't let me right now :(
Have a look through our author threads too, Thea. So many great books written by lovely people in here and we're getting more every day. It's truly wonderful.
I've added another TBR collecton called "next to read" where I've put the I'll say KUF authors as I'm not sure how many are GR authors and whereas I'll always try to read a "friend author", I also want to get through my free books list too.So my plan for this year is one for one.
I've been pretty good recently with updating my GR bookcase, so it would be pretty easy to count how many are GR authors even if they aren't "friend" authors.
I counted 72 out of 137 items in my "finished" collection as friendly authors. I am extremely happy with my ratio.
Nifty, Joo. I think I'll look through my 'read' collection in the same way.Tomorrow. I'm multiple-tasking enough at the moment. Re-runs of CSI must be watched.
As long as they don't distract too much from the group, of course.
I often read (in forums) about people wanting to delete books they have finished reading as "well I'm not going to ever read it again". I like to keep mine as a record and also since I'm in and out of forums with discussions on these books, it's nice to refer back.
After wading through the Authors Thread I can update my count to 37 Books by 26 authors. Some of the other 8 are 'indie'authors but not obviously members of this group.
Feels good, eh, Sarah? If not for our kindles and the group we'd be wandering round the house complaining we had nothing good to read. Well, I'd be. Goodness knows I used to!I like to keep mine for the same reasons, Joo. I always want to keep the dire freebies so I don't download them again, as well ;)

I pledge for 25 of them at least to be from writers who are present in this group. Just because when we get some awesomeness right on our doorstep, there's no real need to look elsewhere !
So far I have read this:
I'll add the other ones as I go along... if you have any suggestions or feel like giving me a bit of support, feel free !
