Okay, I know I really liked this one. It's late, I've got a cold, and I'm not going to say much but it was such a touching book, as soon as I finished I went straight up to my boyfriend and gave him such a big hug. I know I have someone special akin to the love in this book and it made me all cry-like, because the characters are all so strong and brave. But, I really liked it.

I hear the other books in this series are better than this one, so I'll have to give them a shot. This was a pretty entertaining read, there was just a few things that didn't sit too well with me: for one, the science interludes! As a complete science nerd I had no problem with them, but I just can't picture a lot of people caring to actually read them in between every chapter, there's probably almost as much content in them as the stupid stories we've come to read!

I also thought it a bit tasteless to refer to these award winners, dumb though they may be, as "frugal old farts" and saying "thanks for taking yourself out of the gene pool!" I mean, we can all come have a bit of a snigger at what obviously wasn't going through these people's heads, but that's taking it just a step too far in my opinion :/

Good good! I definitely should pick up some more Asimov-robot-related books this year (:

Funny, stupid stuff! Definitely had me laughing out loud at some bits!

Jess (jesscatt) | 162 comments #8: The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling
17.01.12 - 18.01.12, ***
105 pages
Total pages 2012: 2,175

Nice little tales, the footnotes in the commentary annoyed me at times though. Dumbledore came off as really up himself always footnoting next to the words "intelligent" or "skilled" or whatever as "such as myself." The stories were nice, though, although very short.

message 10: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 162 comments #9: The Island of Dr. Moreau by H. G. Wells

17.02.12 - 21.02.12, **
176 pages
Total pages 2012: 4,114

Bit of a disappointment because it wasn't really what I thought it was gonna be, would have liked it a lot more if it had actual interviews with survivors/witnesses of these extreme encounters rather than just hypothetical situations.

Still getting through them quite happily, despite George R. R. Martin being a heartless, heartless man who kills without mercy, haha.

message 23: by Jess (new)

07.04.12 - 23.04.12, *****
1,184 pages
Total pages 2012: 9,823

I loved it. I think it took me so long to read because I knew that once I'd finished I couldn't just pick up the next one, I had to wait... so I subconsciously dragged out the reading process a bit. That said, it was amazing. George R. R. Martin <3

message 25: by Jess (new)

25.05.12 - 29.05.12, ****
560 pages
Total pages 2012: 11,911

For some reason the name of the link comes up as The Shawshank Redemption although it is only one of the four stories in this compilation of novellas called Different Seasons.

The Shawshank Redemption was very good and I now want to see how the movie was handled.

Apt Pupil chilled me to my bone. Terrifyingly creepy characters.

The Body had a nice little exploration feel to it which I enjoyed.

The Breathing Method was downright creepy too. But good, indeed.

Good again! Thrilling. I'm just gonna say all I want to say about the series here. Amazing! By the end I was just so tense wanting to know what happened. John Marsden has most certainly mastered the ability to make his readers care about his characters. And how they all have grown too. I really, really recommend this series.
