Why do you love books?

I'm passionate about books and reading because I can get lost in them. I too, like the escape which is why I very rarely read nonfiction. I'm also a notorious daydreamer. When I was in High School, a long, long time ago, I rarely read because I had a reading disability and the books we had to read in school were difficult. Shakespeare and Dickens were difficult to read and Steinbeck was too depressing. It wasn't until someone gave me an historical romance that I truly discovered that reading can be fun.
High school can be a tough time and if it's a small school, friends with similar interests can be hard to find. If you're lucky enough to attend college, you'll find friends with the same passions you have. Hang in there, you're not alone.

I love reading because I just managed to read @ an adult level the past year and a half and have had to pre-read my 10 yr old's book with her reading at an adult level. I usually read to escape my emotional problems and the stress my kids cause on a daily basis. Being bipolar it have many life issues.I have started writing a YA book Inevitable Destinyz for my daughter. If you want to check it out you can @ http://figment.com/users/232058-Jessi...
@Jean- I too have a reading disability and couldn't read until I was 14. Now @ 37 books are my best friend. Steinbeck was the only high school author I could read. I think it had to do with the descriptions.
Books a major part of my life. My grandparents raised me and I can always remember my grandmother taking me to the library when I was little. We would go twice a week. Then the library was at the Kemp House (an old mansion that was owned by one of our founding fathers in my town. I can remember walking in and smelling the old books. The 1st love of my life. When I couldnt read my grandmother would read to me. When I was learning to read we read together then once I could read on my own we would sit at the kitchen table and read our books. If I were to get in trouble I wouldnt be grounded my grandmtoher would just take whatever book I was currently reading. Knowing full well it would drive me crazy not knowing the end or to finishe it because I can't start a new one without finishing one. Books would take me into a whole different world. I can picture everything in my head about the book I was reading. I am having so much fun sharing these with my daughter today. She is only 2 but she too has a love that will always be never ending. No matter how bad things can get we can always lose ourselves in someone elses life and story or world.
I love to read because it helps me forget about reality...almost like I "get out of my body" for awhile. Reading really helps me to relax.
I am at a transition point in my life, retirement. I felt lost, couldn't find my personal compass. I decided my job was reading. My reading has created a world that grows. Also, I'm enjoying groups and making friends, discussions and God bless digital libraries. I enjoy many genres and good writing , most often international interest and historical fiction.
My mom insists that I started reading at two, and I can remember reading road signs and billboards from my car seat. I was always put in the classes ahead of mine for reading, and I was usually the kid picked to read out loud. I went to the library several times a week, always bringing home a bag full of books, and my love of reading has only intensified over the years. I started reading my mother's Harlequin's when I was around nine (I had to sneak them because she didn't want me reading them that young), and I tend to obsess over one genre for a while, then move to something else. Books let me escape my own reality; I can visit other worlds, be another person, and sex up a different sexy guy every day! ;) I'm currently unemployed, and I've set a goal to read at least one book a day this year; so far I've read 426 books. What can I say? I love to read.
It is the best past time ever. I have always been a reader. I m a teacher and I taught my daughter to read at an early age. By the time she was four she could read as well as any 5th grader. She still loves to read, too
Idk, so many reasons, at first when I was younger (I've been reading as long as a can remember) stories have a way of taking you somewhere, u know. now that I'm sorta homebound (long story) they take me where I need to go , I don't feel as much pain both physically and mentally :)
I remember watching my Mom and my siblings and really wanting to learn. I could not wait to learn. Reading has been a lifelong passion. I read everyday, sometimes it is for hours and sometimes for a few minutes. Since I bought my NOOK, I find that I have been reading even more.
I enjoyed read because I like the many differnce aventure and discover you can get lost become a part of the character. Sometime I laugh and some time I cry and then there time when I'm travel to china. I can visual see my character. I am right there with my character. I become part of the book. I aways did not read I had a learn disability and it took me longer then most kids but I learn to love books. And the nook is one of the best device I read ever day. So to all you book reader keep reading.

My question is, what makes all you avid readers so passionate about books? What connects you to the stories you read?
