Another topic which was suggested a while ago.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever had any personal experiences in which you thought you saw/heard/felt a ghost? Do you think there is solid evidence that ghosts may be real?

Debate away.

There is no evidence, Penn & Teller Bullshit did an episode on ghosts (or more accurately ghost hunters) and telling why they're bullshit.

Yeah, ghost hunters can be pretty insane. O_o I once researched ghost hunting for a story I was writing. It was very, errrm ... interesting.

However, I'm not totally against the theory of ghosts. Although, I don't think they're the same thing as they are in mythology necessarily. I think there may be some kind of strange, leftover energy that could cause ghost-like images to appear, etc. Plus, my mom has had a few experiences which she thought might have involved ghosts, so ... I don't know. I find it hard to choose a side on this one.

The problem with "encounters" is they are basically delusions, something mysterious happened well your brain tries to work it out and of course you've heard of ghosts your whole life so it tells you it was a ghost as it explains it.

True. Usually there is some kind of explanation that you just can't see for some reason. Or a freaky coincidence, etc. Personally I haven't had any such "encounters." Except once when I was nine I saw this hovering red blob that at the time I thought was a ghost ... but, I have no idea what it was.

Well it is hard to say because some people clame to have seen ghosts and some have pictures. Noone has proven that the pictures are real andnot made up. Personally I dont beleve in the paranormal so I don't think ghosts are real... BUT I MIGHT BE WRONG...

I don't really believe in ghosts per se, but rather, spirits. It's hard to explain ..

I would love to meet a ghost, it's hard to explain, but it seems fun. I think that there are such things as ghosts, though I haven't actually had experience with any spirits or ghosts. And besides, even if they aren't real, the stories are fun to read and listen to.

You have to be extremely careful with contacting the dead. In my opinion, leave the dead be. Their business is their business, and it should remain that we are focused on the business of the living.

I support you Tenebris, you can communicate with the dead, not that much good ever comes as a result. It is never safe to meddle in affairs that are beyond your powers.

Ok you belive it. Fine. But I don't. How can a DEAD person talk to you when they are DEAD?

The corpse is no long animated, no. But in different cultures and religions, people hold a belief that spirit or a soul lingers. Usually they linger on the Earth if they cannot rest (body dumped, no popular funeral, was summoned, etc.) While I am not a very religious person, I know people who have dealt with different arts and tried to summon something just for fun. They really regretted having some nasty following them in their tracks.

Of course, there is the literary ghost. There can be a ghost of a memory. An action that can haunt you. Everyone has "personal demons" and "ghosts," per se. I don't mean to get very philosophical on you, but these are my beliefs and I wish to explain.

It's a special kind of board with letters, usually with "yes" and "no" also written on it. There is an instrument that the user uses to determine a message.

I recommend you look it up. I don't like them (can lead to nasty things), but they are still interesting none the less.

I don't believe in anything like ghosts or spirits...but I want to, at some point, play around with a Ouiji board. Sorry Tenebris -_-

I've always wondered about that. The thing is, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and water are absolutely necessary for our cells. I don't see any reason why there couldn't be some other sort of life that isn't made of another sort of cell, or even not cells in general.

Maybe - but then why and how would they be replicas of people we knew?

Oh, I've heard lots of things where somebody's grandmother appeared to them or something :P
Why would that be the only way to enter our world?
Why would future humans be made of vapor/mist? xDD But that would be cool for sure ^-^

I get what you mean. I think I believe something similar... I don't think there's something as simple as "ghosts" really, just that there may be beings living on separate planes of energy or something. And, some of those planes are closer to this world than others. If that makes sense. >.<

Never saw one nor do I believe in them, but the stories that surround them are entertaining.

On Tuesday I was talking to someone before Science and she said that the night before she was on her bed and she heard a loud noise, her rubber fell on the ground and it was in the middle of the table. Then at about 6 minitues past midnight her alarm went off but she didn't set it.Then the next morning her TV switched on.
I cant explain what happend but I think ghosts could exist at some extent. But it could have been a tottal coincidence. Mabye someone was playing a prank on her but still ghosts could be the answer...

Yeah they could, well if of course their was an ounce of actual evidence for them other then speculation and human credulity.

Well, I'm going to try and put this in a way that makes sense, but if I do a poor job I'm apologizing in advance. I've always wondered, like, what if our spirits were just energy and our body's were a sort of container for our spirits. As we get older the container starts to wear down and fall apart until it can no longer hold our energy. After that the spirit is free to wonder around. Did that make any sense? I don't know. That was just a thought. But even though I don't believe in ghosts per se I do believe in strange things happening so I guess that ghosts are possible. I know that some strange things have happened to me. Still do, but I don't think that they are ghost related.
Also, maybe ghosts and aliens are the same thing just different ways of looking at it... Food for thought. :P

That's a bit confusing, but it kind of makes sense to me... :)
I personally don't believe in ghosts. There's no actual scientific proof that they exist, so until someone discovers them for real, I'm not going to believe that they exist.
