Personally I dont like this book. Its too much "faux victorian"

Sanne ♔ I loved it! The style, the characters, the facts and the details. All of them. It was a great story.

chinami I totally loved this book. I know it was a heavy read and dark but i loved it.

Carly What made me pick up this book was the cover which is beautiful, the title "A Great and Terrible Beauty" I mean who wouldn't pick it up just because of the awesome title. And then the authors name, I love it, Libba Bray. But to me the book wasn't all that good.

Hailey i really really liked this book and i finished the second one too. however two of my best friends told me that the third one made them cry and i can't quite bring myself to pick it up and read it cuz i hate endings that are sad and leave me disapointed

Alex I liked it

yeah it was so sad, but sometimes i think thats good cuz you know that you're really GETTING it.

Rachel Seigel I loved this book and was completely drawn in to the setting and characters. I read the entire trilogy, but wasn't crazy about the third book. It went on a bit too long and lost sight of what made the series interesting to start with.

Jennifer i too picked up the book due to the cover. fell in love with gemma's character. i've read the first two, but the third is soo long-i have been putting it off for too long- need to finish the series.

Mallory I loved it!

Catherine I loved this book but disliked the way the series ended.

Maria Lavrador I love this book it was a good surprise and can't wait to read the other 2...

Eu adorei este livros e mal posso esperar para ler os outros 2...

Tania Susan wrote: "I loved it! The style, the characters, the facts and the details. All of them. It was a great story."

Completely agree. It is one of my fav series too.

Haley Carson before i had read it, my friend recommended it to me and i have to say that i thought it would be kinda boring but it is now on my favorites list!
so if you are in a similar situation and you are wondering if you should read it, try it first, it might surprise you

Danielle About 3 years ago I read part way thorough the first one, but was creeped out so I stopped. I have just read it again recently, I like the main character, Gemma, but her friends are pretty cruel, which is a bit off putting. I like in the second book how you learn more about them and understand them a bit better so you could sympathize with them at least a little.

Elinor I loved it so much, but I thought the last book was the best. Even with the sad ending.

I'm reading it now. On page 160. Is it good? I mean its kinda boring but ill keep reading.

It is a bit of a haul, but worth the time reading it. :)

Emma (loveofboooks) i don't know really, i didn't hate it but i didn't love it either. It was...difficult.

diemmi147 At first, I hated it, but then I loved it. And now I cannot get enough of it and have a re-read every once in a while. :D

Cali I was disappointed with it. Not what I expected. I was hoping for something different.

message 27: by Ella (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ella I loved this book and this series! My only problem was the third book. I hated the ending. I thought it was almost as bad as the ending to Mockingjay.

Ashley I read the series a couple years ago and absolutely loved it...loved it enough to donate it to the library instead of selling it so that I can take it out and read it whenever I want...lol

Hodan Mohamed I like it, but I don`t think I luv it

Tiffo i like libba bray's style a LOT and i definitely admire the authenticity of some aspects of her novel, but yeah the series has a stupid ending and it got to be way too much at the end.

I know how you feel, I cried and thought it wasn't the ending.

Mahnoor Shafqaat Hated it! Tried my best to finish it but failed to do so!

Chloe Henderson I personally didn't like this book. I felt it was too hastily paced, confusing, and a poor attempt at writing in a historical context. I felt like Bray mis-grasped the realities of being a young 'lady' in a Victorian setting and wrote Gemma as an entirely modern character, with unsuitable opinions, expressions and mannerisms for her era. The occasional forced exclamation of 'poppycock!' is just not enough to be convincing. I felt as if many of the protagonists suffered from this as well.

Chloe Henderson That being said, I do have to give her credit for a good writing style and will definitely look into any non-historical fiction novels she has produced.

message 35: by Cara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cara I loved it! I couldn't get enough of the characters, especially Kartik and Gemma<3, their relationship was adorable. It's true the ending of the last book was sad, but that doesn't mean it's a bad ending. Just be ready to cry....

message 36: by Ida (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ida Libba Bray is one of my favourite authors and I loved her Gemma Doyle trilogy. And the fact that Libba both made me cry and laugh when I read this books just says it all really. Though the ending on the trilogy was so sad.
I also has a friend that wasn't a fan of the books, she didn't even finish the first book. But me on the other hand read it in two days.

Irene Bringas My favorite series to date, i bought this book years ago and read it, loved it, continued the trilogy just this January and let me tell you... i cried, cried, and cried some more. Laughed, got frustrated, jealous, sad... all of the above. Wonderfully written.

Sunsette I read the trilogy a few years ago & was pleasantly surprised. I liked it. I can't say it's on my list of favorites, but I enjoyed reading it.

Becca Rose I LOVED these books. 5 stars for all three. I really loved the setting, and the plot was original. Oh and i loved the characters too. Pretty much I loved everything about these books!

chinami Becca wrote: "I LOVED these books. 5 stars for all three. I really loved the setting, and the plot was original. Oh and i loved the characters too. Pretty much I loved everything about these books!"

You must read The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray You'll love it.

This book is on my TBR list and I have it in my Amazon cart! I'll be buying it soon! I know I'll love it too =)

message 42: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I'm afraid it was too dark for me, so I didn't finish it :-(

message 43: by Alec (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alec I liked it, I don't normally read historical fiction, as I like to read a lot of world-building, but this had that in the realms and i thought it was really good

Sofya Dolinko LOVED the whole trillogy!!!

Jennifer I actually loved the trilogy. It's normally not the type of book I would read, but once you get into it, especially starting the second book, it gets to where you don't want to put it down.

message 46: by L (new) - rated it 5 stars

L Loved the entire trilogy. Hated the fact Simon was only in one book. God he was hot. What a shame he didn't come back. What a shame they didn't have a little bit of love going on there to spice it up.

Melinda Brasher I didn't much like the book, but part of it may be that it was so highly recommended. I didn't particularly like the style or the characters, and the magic was too fuzzy. I did like the period detail, though, and the boarding house atmosphere was interesting.

Eunice I absolutely LOVE the trilogy. All the characters fascinated me and also the storyline was amazing!!

Meranda I didnt like it much, i found some of it confusing and i found it hard to keep reading because it felt like it dragged on a lot.

message 50: by Cristina (new) - added it

Cristina I read it 2-3 years ago and I was trying to remember whether I liked it or hated it, but I cannot remember anything about it...and I think that's worse than hating it.
