J. Rubino (jrubino) | 317 comments I did this week's blog on "Murder By Decree", the '79 Holmes vs Jack the Ripper film. There was another one about 12 years earlier, the same actor plays Lestrade in both.
The film - for those who have not seen it - employs the same conspiracy theory as in the film "From Hell"; Christopher Plummer is Holmes, James Mason is Watson.

Joanna (foxwrapped) | 353 comments I saw this movie very soon after reading From Hell. Is it strange to be very intrigued by the premise but not be at all convinced that it is the truth? I loved From Hell, and I mostly saw this movie as a more satisfying film adaption than the From Hell movie with Johnny Depp (which was awful).

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 317 comments I thought the production values of "From Hell" were much better, but they did play with the truth - Abberline (a real person) was a rather portly fiftiesh man at the time of the Ripper murders, and his career continued after them.
I do like James Mason, as Watson - he was somehow all wrong, but so right at the same time.
