Heather | 8550 comments I have noticed the diversity of members that we have here. There are so many of us from around the world, I would like to give everyone the opportunity to share the art of your country and culture.

To display, explain and share the art demonstrating the country or culture from which you reside, please create a new topic or thread if there isn't one already. For example, if you would like to discuss the art of Egypt and there isn't a topic on Egyptian art, feel free to create your own. But if you plan to expound on the background of French art and the topic has already been introduced, you may continue that thread with your comments.

I am looking forward to learning about art of which I'm not as familiar. One aspect of Goodreads which catches my interest is the variety of people from around the world. Let us get to know you!

In 2008 I reviewed a cemetery book that included Dexter Ferry's resting place.
Since then many links in my review expired and while reworking them and I came across this NYTimes article about the DIA expansion. While looking for our thread mentioning museum upgrades I found this new thread, ART FROM AROUND THE WORLD.

Here's my home town museum, The Detroit Institute of Arts.

In the 1980s Michael Graves designed a master plan, reorganizing the interior, creating a new cafeteria and expanding gallery space by 31,000 square feet. The museum has more than 100 galleries, an 1,150-seat auditorium, a 380-seat lecture/recital hall, an art reference library, and state-of-the-art conservation laboratory.

Dexter Ferry donated the land on which the DIA was built.

The DIA flicker group has an extensive selection of photos.

Carol (goodreadscomcarolann) | 1140 comments Beautiful. Your Rivera court with the marble walls and high ceiling with light remind me of our Morgan Great Hall at the Wadsworth.

Monica | 909 comments When you have time click through the DIA flicker page. Many fine photos are shared there and you can see bits of Grave's design.

Dvora Treisman Thanks Ed. Very interesting! It doesn't surprise me that it turned out to be difficult to build. But what a treat. And a kick. And speaking of kick, someone should kick his mom.
