So I just heard about "SOPA", the organisation that's killing the Internet. Apparently some site called megaupload was shut down (though I've heard it's unrelated), and they're trying to censor more stuff or something. And they could shut down Tumblr and kill Facebook pages. I'd That happens, tendency the Internet will be pretty much dead to me. Except for you lovely Goodreads people.
So why am I making this? Well cause 1. I think they shouldn't be doing this, they don't have the right to kill the Internet. And 2. Because I enjoy ranting and reading other people's rants. So...if this upsets you, RANT AWAY. And if you like it...RANT AWAY. About how I don't like it or something...

message 4: by Lunariette (new)

Lunariette | 35 comments This reminds me of PETA. They're an organization that is "all for animals' rights" and stuff, except they are completely stupid. They wanted to make a mechanical groundhog for Groundhog's Day and set the real one free into the wild. That thing wouldn't last a second in the real world!

message 5: by dazpup (new)

dazpup | 230 comments Well, I want the Internet. They will ban YouTube & deviantART

message 6: by dazpup (new)

dazpup | 230 comments And maybe Facebook if this happens.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah a Facebook page for Harry Potter posted about it and said their page could be shut down and that Tumblr could be shut down any day now. Luckily Goodreads isn't popular enough, and it'll probably last through that. I LOVE THE INTERNET. IT CAN'T DIE D= and if it does...I hate SOPA.

message 10: by Lunariette (new)

Lunariette | 35 comments Wait why are they trying to shut down the internet?

message 11: by dazpup (new)

dazpup | 230 comments They don't want people getting "bad" ideas.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Not the whole Internet, they just say they have the right to censor what they want or something. I dunno, I just heard about it. And Wikipedia shut down for a day. And google is doing something in protest too. I'm not sure of the details though.

message 13: by Natalie (new)

Lunariette | 35 comments WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH?!? And I think it's already done the damage...

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

YEAH I KNOW. theyre trying to censor everything...not cool. IF WE DONT HAVE SAFE SEARCH ON, WE DONT CARE WHAT WE SEE. SO DROP IT SOPA. YOU DONT NEED TO CONTROL THE INTERNET AND (PARTIALLY) OUR LIVES. YOU CAN'T JUST GO AROUND SHUTTING THINGS DOWN AND CENSORING WHAT YOU WANT. ITS RUINING IT. AND YEAH, WE USE WIKIPEDIA. LOTS OF PEOPLE PROBABLY NEEDED INFORMATION FROM THERE DURING ITS DAY-LONG SHUTDOWN. WHICH WAS PROTESTING AGAINST YOU. AND LOTS OF PEOPLE FIND THEIR JOBS THROUGH THE INTERNET, OR THATS HOW THEY KNOW IF THEY CAN MOVE SOMEWHERE FOR A JOB. YOU'RE JUST MAKING MORE PEOPLE UNEMPLOYED! AND UNHAPPY WITH YOU!
wow ive gotten bad at ranting. i just kinda...like talking in all caps...to an organisation...that will probably never see this... so just ignore me. cause i need to practice my ranting. i shouldnt have stopped. rawr.

message 17: by dazpup (new)

dazpup | 230 comments Well, if SOPA does shut down the Internet to a limited supply, we can hope no online reports or anything online about homework. BUT I HATE SOPA

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

D= Comcast is on the shut-down list too. NOOOO. thats my email servicey thingy. and how i watch the newest Doctor Who episodes. then i would literally be down to Goodreads. cause free email services like Yahoo and Google would be shut down first. then facebook would go. then Tumblr. I hate SOPA. what are they trying to prove? that the internet doesn't hide enough? That someone with a cause can do what the please in the american government? but its in China too...UGH. go away SOPA. please. i need comcast. and facebook.
*overposting on this. i need to rant every once in a while*

these are just the sites that are going on strike. SOPA probably wont shut down all of them. But Wikipedia already went on strike for a day. they were the first i heard of. others could go on strike anytime from SOPA. maybe for longer.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I KNOW. THEY BETTER NOT SHUT DOWN ANY TIME SOON. even if they do it shouldnt last too long. the sites that have were only out for a day.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

My school passed around an anti-SOPA and PIPA petition two days ago, right after the Wiki blackout and censor-bar Google Doodle. We got 639 signatures out of 794 students and staff :)

message 37: by Emma (new)

message 42: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 425 comments Our generations logic, you can mess with our social interactions, steal our money, make our health care and educational systems so ridiculously lame, and we will do nothing, but don't you dare mess with the internet.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

haha exactly. if our internet gets corrupted/filtered...thousands of people will try to stop it. i hate SOPA. my city's school system is terrible. i just deal with it and dont pay attention in class.
