Annika I know I'm posting this on Monday, but I won't have time tomorrow morning:)

What are your two favorite winter activities?

message 2: by Carol (last edited Jan 24, 2012 03:30AM) (new)

Carol (actutor) Watching the birds at the feeder and watching the local weather people get excited about impending storms.

message 3: by Melki (last edited Jan 24, 2012 03:58AM) (new)

Melki Shoveling and more shoveling! Just can't get enough of that shoveling!

Actually my two favorite winter activities are sitting in my chair with a good book and a hot drink.

And watching someone else shovel.

(We had 3 1/2" on Saturday - the really wet, heavy, stick-to-your-shovel kind...)

Mary | 236 comments By far my favorite thing in the winter is being cozily inside, in front of the fire with a book and something warm to drink (preferably a chai latte!), and watching the snow out the window.

Watching winter sports (football, NCAA basketball, and currently Australian Open tennis) on TV is another favorite winter "occupation."

Dan Raymo (dan_raymo) | 22 comments Drinking and carpentry, but definitely not at the same time -- that's how you end up with a nickname like "Lefty".

message 6: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (caro7) Can't say I have any favorite cold-weather activities. I like to hole up inside with hot chocolate and a good book. I hate being out in the cold.

message 7: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Found a new favorite this winter!!

Sitting in the outdoor hot springs in Thermopolis, WY while drinking Winter Manhattans particularly when it is snowing. So freakin cool!!

Of course a nice Coke and vanilla vodka reading by the fire is pretty dang awesome too!.

message 8: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (miranda_d) Love this thread - Melki since you're so fond of shovelling (surely you weren't being sarcastic) please come up and enjoy yourself here!

Dan - nice to see that you are exercising due caution with the carpentry!

Gretchen - how do you make a winter Manhattan?

My two favorite things are cross country skiing, and sitting in the hot tub (after the skiing of course!)

message 9: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Winter Manhattan - Fill your shaker full of ice two parts Fireball Whiskey or other cinnamon flavored whiskey, one part apricot brandy and a dash of bitters. Shake and pour and have a lovely toasty drink for the hot tub/spring during a cold winter

Melki I really shouldn't be complaining. This year's winter has been unusually mild, and we had loads more snow last year. It's just that last year, every time it snowed, other family members were home to help take care of the mess. For both snowfalls this year, I have been THE LONE SHOVELER!

message 11: by Julie (new)

Julie | 59 comments I love to play board games in winter especially Scrabble. I'm also doing a fair amount of baking this year as evidenced by my expanding waistline! It hasn't really even been much like winter here in Northern Arkansas. Today we're having a cold, drizzly rain. I would welcome a snow day!

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments My favourite winter activities are curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a good book while listening to the rain pelt the window and the other is dreaming, hoping and wishing for snow rather than the usual rain...
