Tabatha (lylathewicked) LOL I don't remember it's been forever since I read Ender's Game. I was thinking about rereading it. Problem is I don't have my desktop atm, which is where the ebook resides.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I always wondered, what was ebook?

message 4: by Tabatha (new)

Tabatha (lylathewicked) Ebooks are books you can get on your computer and read. Some people steal them, other people buy them. But they are downloadable books basically.

Olin | 13 comments just a note, eliza, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind get really wierd, but still good.

message 12: by Eliza (new)

Eliza (la_miss) | 8 comments What do you mean by "really wierd" ?

message 13: by liz (new)

liz (lizevans) It has been so long since I read Ender's Game. At the time I had no idea that it was only one in a series. If I had known at the time I probably would have read them all, but I didn't, so I didn't.
I really did enjoy the book Ender's Game. I thought it was a facinating look into how you can manipulate people to do what you want and make it all just seem like a game.
I loved the ending of the book and have often reflected on the idea of a Speaker for the Dead.
Like I said though it was so long ago that I read it that I don't rememer a lot of the story. It was good enough for me to recommend this book to my husband and my nephew who both enjoyed reading the book.

message 14: by Eliza (new)

Eliza (la_miss) | 8 comments I recommended it to a few of my students. Two picked up the book and are almost done with it. I had to smile today because I heard them recommending it to a few other guys, so I hope it spreads much like the Twilight books did here at school! reading is contagious!

message 15: by Tabatha (new)

Tabatha (lylathewicked) First time I read it was for school. It was one of the first books I ever had to read for school that wasn't complete crap. So I am pleased. A lot of people have already read it, and those who haven't are either missing out or fail at life for not wanting to read it.

message 16: by Olin (new)

Olin | 13 comments the wierdness is just that it is different then other sci-fi books.

message 17: by Stefu (new)

Stefu Smith Enders Game is the best book of all time. The other books in the series are quite good as well. If you all haven't read them, I would highly recommend them! Ender as an adult is very cool.

message 18: by Rustyford (new)

Rustyford | 2 comments Ender's Game is one of my favorites. I was told that the rest of the books weren't very good, so I haven't bothered to read them. I'm rethinking that now.

message 19: by Olin (new)

Olin | 13 comments good

message 20: by Stefu (new)

Stefu Smith Rustyford: The other books are just different from the first. The "Shadow Series" is much more political. The "Ender's Series" is more philisophical. If you're a fan of the typical "Sci-fi" genre, you would probably be more interested in the Ender's Series (Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind) than the Shadow Series.

message 21: by Tabatha (new)

Tabatha (lylathewicked) Rustyford - Whomever told you they suck was probably wrong. I had a friend reading them in highschool and he said they were pretty damn good.

Daniel (blackwalkerproductions) | 2 comments so many of the Ender books I have to read now... haven't in a long longtime.

message 23: by Olin (new)

Olin | 13 comments well read them again!

message 24: by Brian (new)

Brian (fantasyaddict) | 3 comments Hello everyone and thanks for the invite Olin. Now the rest of you can blame him if I get long winded. OSC is one of my favorite writers. I have read all the Ender books, Memory of Earth books, Alvin Maker books, and several others. My wife met him at a National Council for Teachers of English meeting in Atlanta and got me a signed edition of Shadow Puppets. She got to the book signing late and everyone was gone, except for a couple of people just milling around at the ends of the aisles. She commented to a friend she was with, that OSC was my favorite writer and how disappointed I was going to be when she told me about missing him when a gentleman standing with his back to them at the end of the aisle spoke up and said something like " well, you never know when he'll show back up". He turned around and introduced himself, pulled a book off a stack, signed it and told her he didn't want her husband to be disappointed. She and her friend were able to talk with him for a little bit before he left. She told me that he was a very interesting and nice person. Anyway, having read all of these books, and don't get me wrong, I love Enders Game, I believe that his writing and storytelling got better as the books continued. Enders Shadow is definitely a must read. And Stefhu is correct, Most of the shadow series is more International Political Intrigue(sp) than science fiction, but they involve a lot of the characters in the Enders Game books. If you have the time, read The Worthing Chronicles and the Memory of Earth books.

Stefu Smith Brian:

Glad to see another OSC fan! Very cool story about the book signing. I can't wait to read the new Ender book! I also just got ahold of a copy of Songmaster which I've never read. Very excited about that too.

Eliza (la_miss) | 8 comments The student that asked to keep my Ender's Game copy just lent me Ender in Exile! He said it was his Christmas present :oD now I need to find time to read it! I hope its as good as Ender's Game :o)

I still haven't gotten around to reading the rest of the Enders series. But I do hope you enjoy it. :D

Ryan (wifflelegend) I haven't finished all the books in the Ender series yet, but I would say that Speaker for the Dead is by far my favorite so far. And to get a little context I've read Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and the entire Ender's Shadow series except Shadow Puppets. I think they are all spectacular so far, but Speaker for the Dead blew my mind!

message 29: by Olin (new)

Olin | 13 comments just wait til you read children of the mind!

I met him quite accidentally back in the 80's at a used book store. He was great. I have two books he signed. I was already in awe of him when I met him and was quite tongue tied. He was gracious and signed two Alvin books.

I agree that "The Worthington Chronicles" are great.
"Speaker for the Dead" was my favorite in the Ender saga, although I've enjoyed Bean's adventures and I am looking forward to the final(?) Earth Afire book. I also enjoyed "The Lost Gate" and wish he would add to the series.
