Ziyue I would rather be a mountain girl because of the quarry speech, the strength from working in the quarries, etc. But of course I would come down once in a while to the lowlands.

Valerie Agreed. I think it's really cool how the quarry speech works. Plus, who'd want to be called a lowlander?

Ziyue Ik! At first I thought that it was an insult or something. U know like another word for loser or something. And that quarry-speech was pretty cool. But it might also get annoying if u were telling ur friend about something but she thought that u were talking about something else since it runs on memories.

Valerie That would not be good.....
I hate it when ppl end up talking about two different things!

Ziyue And then there's the fact that if u r talking about something private and other people can just peek into it. Ugh, now that would be terrible. :/

Valerie this book was amazing!

Ziyue Loved it!! But I really wanted to find out if peder and Miri were going to be together.

Valerie The ending kind of hinted that they were....
Peder is pretty awesome

Ziyue I liked peder more than the prince. Well, I don't really know because we didnt really get a lot of personality out of him besides his awesome cold stone column thing. ^.^

Alyssa Tracy I loved the book and i remember it like i just finished the book yesterday although it was like 3 years ago

Valerie i just finished it yesterday.... lol

Ziyue Haha I just finished the book two days ago ^-^

Alyssa Tracy ya i got sucked in and was like this is definitely a book u cant forget and wen i just recently saw it on here im like omg i remember this i loved it

Valerie that's exactly what happened to me~~!!!!!!!!!!

Ziyue Alyssa wrote: "ya i got sucked in and was like this is definitely a book u cant forget and wen i just recently saw it on here im like omg i remember this i loved it"

So Alyssa would u rather be a mountain girl or a lowlander?

Alyssa Tracy mountain girl i think it seems id be more free and i dont think being a lowlander would be my thing anyway

Rosalba mountain girl, if I get to use quarry-speech (that's really cool) and have friends like Miri

Mountain girl! Mountain girls are stronger and they can use Quarry Speech!

єɱɱą definatly mountain girl! it seems like such a tight community, and they all lead a fairly uncompliacated life, so yeah, mountain girl! quarry speech is cool!

Katie Mountain girl, I love how it sounds so beautiful and free, where everyone trusts one another, plus, what's up with that lowlander snobbishness, like they're "better" than highlanders?

message 21: by Ella (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ella Mountain girl becouse I love the country and the biggest part of the lowlanders are too snob!

Brenna Mountain girl for sure, though I probably wouldn't be fit for the job of mining out the linder since I'm "so tiny!" and people are "afraid I'll break like a china doll if they squeeze me too hard!" So basically, I would be in the same situation as Miri, because I'm so petite. haha

Rose mountain gril though i wouldnt like there living condtion . they dont expects you to act like an lady

Lauren I would want to spend the beginning of my life on Mount Eskel and move to the lowlands when I'm older. That way I would gain the values that the mountain girls learn, but achieve a more comfortable living condition and appreciate the luxuries of lowland life.

Meredith Klein mountian girl

Rose Lauren wrote: "I would want to spend the beginning of my life on Mount Eskel and move to the lowlands when I'm older. Lauren Rose wrote: "Lauren wrote: "I would want to spend the beginning of my life on Mount Eskel and move to the lowlands when I'm older. That way I would gain the values that the mountain girls learn, but achieve a m..."

That doesn't mean I couldn't visit them or, even better, make arrangements for them to visit me. I would be well-rounded like Britta.

Rose Lauren wrote: "Rose wrote: "Lauren wrote: "I would want to spend the beginning of my life on Mount Eskel and move to the lowlands when I'm older. That way I would gain the values that the mountain girls learn, bu..." ture very ture what was u favorite part of the book

Lauren I liked the part when Miri and the other students made a deal with the teacher. It is when the protagonist's inner change becomes the most clear to the reader. In the beginning, Miri is a weak little girl who longs to be able to work like everyone else. This passage shows her bravely applying her new education in a way that her former self would never fathom. What was yours?

message 30: by Rose (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rose my favorite part was when the at the festvial and miri wears her hair down and peter gets jeaulous because he thinks she wants to be a lowlander . i think it shows just how much he cares. beside ths book what book do u like reading

meghana A lowlander. I mean, mountain life sounds heroic and all, but honestly the life of comfort versus the life of quarrying? I think I'd try to be a scholar in the lowlands.

johanna (jo) I think I'd rather be a goat.

:D

Savvy I'm pretty much already a mountain person so I'll go with that. I'll visit the city some times.

Jenna I would love to be a mountain person!! I wish that I visited the mountains more than I do... :)

Kiki~~다은이♥♥ What's so special about lowlanders? I bet at least 98% of us want be a mountain person :-D

message 36: by Cara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cara I would be a mountain person. I love mountains, and the Mount Eskel community is AWESOME! I would like to frequently visit the lowlands, though, because of the opportunities there.

Meredith Klein Mountian girl quary speach is so awsome

i agree

Maari definitely a mountain person because they can quarry speak and thier more of a family than the lowlanders are...

Hannah Kelly Mountain person.

Annabell Mountain person

Simone S. Erm, Mountain person. Highlander sounds cooler :P

Jk, quarry-speech - and you could go to the lowlands any old time to be all posh, but you can't be 'a posh' trying to fit in with highlanders.
(Like Britta, but worse.)

Sarah Mountain person!

Violet Potter if it weren't for quarry-speech I'd be a lowlander
sorry cant help it :[

Stephanie I'd definitely be a mountain person. The lifestyle is different and just feels more intimate. I think you would be yourself and actually see your contributions to society. Maybe it's just me but, i'm sure I would feel much more at peace :)

Phoebe I'd rather be a mountain person because I love the sense of community that they have which is so evident from the book. I also would love being a mountain person because of the atmosphere--the way Shannon Hale describes the area makes it sound so wonderful and peaceful.

Violet Potter i totally agree Phoebe :]

Easily a low lander. I would hate living on Mount Eskel, its charming to read about but I would never want to visit or live there. I would be miserable living in a small village on a cold barren mountain where most people’s daily lives consisted of mining and tending to goats. I would much rather live in the city and go to the Queen’s Castle to learn everything there is to know. If I had been Miri, I never would have left Asland, but I know she loves her home and I can’t fault her for it. It’s just not for me.
