I finally decided to commit to Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Then will knock out Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married. In the process of deciding on a classic. Decisions, decisions.
I know not everyone loved Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Gretchen, but I really did! I hope you feel about it as I did.I'm still reading Chosen (Chandra Hoffman). Nearly done, and have liked it a lot.
I'm reading Cutting for Stone, some short stories, and working my way through a HUGE stack of graphic novels I found at the library.
I'm reading The Dragon's Eye at the moment, needed something a little lighter before getting stuck in to some of my challenges. Next up will be The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements. And don't worry Stacey, I'm two books behind on mine too!
I finished The Shadow Wife over the weekend. Diane Chamberlain is one of my favorites and this book did not disappoint. I'm currently reading Mary and O'Neil and still working on The Night Circus and enjoying both.I fell behind in the reading challenge in April last year and never recovered. I set my goal a little lower this year and I'm already behind.

I am trying to finish Breakdown before it is due back at the library. It is the last of the four new release holds that came in all at once. I adore Paretsky's books for their sharp insights on Chicago society and politics.
Reading Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly. One of my right-wing friends gave it to me, otherwise I probably wouldn't have read it (only because I think O'Reilly is a dope.) But interesting topic and I love history, so hopefully it'll be good.

Almost finished with The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why and have really been enjoying it. This book could save your life, so I recommend everyone read it.
Oh Vicky I know I don't know you yetdont come on here often ...yet...and only know a few people from past ivillage. But just finished"A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." I loved it with every piece of my heart. It is already an all time favorite. It's magical. Please let me know what you think. I would love to discuss with someone who just read it. Sorry I can't figure out how to copy and paste comments on phone yet everyone. I'm reading "Villette" by Bronte because it was time to read it, I wanted something older and I told a friend if she read "Rebecca" I would read "Villette."
I've finished The Dragon's Eye and it was brilliant (I'm going to have to hunt down the rest of the series now!). I've now started The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements and so far I'm thoroughly enjoying it, especially the author's little comments for certain points (it's like he's was in my mind in my chemistry classes and stole my thoughts!).
Gretchen wrote: "Dan wrote: "Reading Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly. Trying to maintain objectivity, but I can't help think that O'Reilly probably identifies well with Booth -- describing Booth's thoughts about kidnapping Lincoln, "Booth will sit before him and deliver a furious monologue, accusing Lincoln of stupidity and self-importance. It doesn't matter that Lincoln won't be able to talk back; Booth has no interest in anything the president has to say."

I've now started [book:The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales ..."For periodic element fans, someone pointed this out to me recently: http://www.periodicvideos.com/ -- classic "nutty professor".
Dan wrote: "Gretchen wrote: "Dan wrote: "Reading Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly. One of my right-wing friends gave it to me, otherwise..."I think I read that there were some factual errors. I'm sure you can find them online.
A bit off topic, but applicable to "book lovers"- Have you heard about World Book Night- April 23rd,where one million books will be given out ALL OVER AMERICA , for free, provided by publishers.
I was chosen as a "giver" of books, after completing a simple one page application online. They have extended the deadline to be a "giver" ---til Feb 6th. here is the site-

Decent read (short and sweet), but didn't offer anything unique. I much preferred
Assassination Vacation
Dan wrote: "Carol wrote: "Dan wrote: "Gretchen wrote: "Dan wrote: "Reading Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly. One of my right-wing friend..."I loved Assassination Vacation. I'm a huge Sarah Vowell fan.

Dan wrote: "Carol wrote: "Dan wrote: "Gretchen wrote: "Dan wrote: "Reading Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly. One of my right-wing friend..."We have the audio book Assassination Vacation . It is even better than the book. I enjoy her on This American Life, and just love her sense of humor.
^ Assassination Vacation is the book I selected for the To Be Referred reader last month. If Sarah Vowell is the reader, I would think the audio version is excellent. Her "delivery" is so unique. Think I will look for this for my "legally blind" mother!
JZ wrote: "^ Assassination Vacation is the book I selected for the To Be Referred reader last month. If Sarah Vowell is the reader, I would think the audio version is excellent. Her "delivery" is ..." She also includes different actors/personalities as the other "characters,"
Did Michael Moore read one of those chapters? Seems like I read that in his book "HERE COMES TROUBLE" ?
Here is a link to the audio book with the additional readers.http://www.amazon.com/Assassination-V...
