The Big Bang took the science community by surprise! Scientists were content to think, as Carl Sagan said, the universe is, always was and always will be. Shock! There was a beginning and there is no logical reason to believe that nothing produced something.

Lauren (djinni) | 71 comments The Big Bang isn't necessarily the beginning of the universe. Just the universe in the sense that we understand. As matter cannot be created or destroyed, the Big Bang cannot have created matter, and therefore isn't the technically beginning of everything. Just the beginning of things as we know them.

Adam I don't understand the "nothing produced something"... no one has really ever said that in relation to the big bang.

Lauren (djinni) | 71 comments The materials didn't come from anywhere. As matter cannot be created, all current matter must have always existed in some form or another. So really, it can't come from anywhere because it's always been there.
