The Big Bang isn't necessarily the beginning of the universe. Just the universe in the sense that we understand. As matter cannot be created or destroyed, the Big Bang cannot have created matter, and therefore isn't the technically beginning of everything. Just the beginning of things as we know them.
I don't understand the "nothing produced something"... no one has really ever said that in relation to the big bang.
