James Michener is who turned me into a historian! My 8th grade social studies teacher made us read "Centennial" when studying U.S. westward expansion, then my parents took me to visit the Rockies that summer, and I got hooked for life on Michener and history.

I've read 9 of his books, and working as his research assistant used to be my dream job (until he died). The Source made me want to be Biblical archaeologist. I love geology and natural history, so fortunately, I actually like to read the first chapter of his books.

If you like Michener, I highly recommend Edward Rutherfurd.
