- The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkien (read the series as a teen and again as an adult)
- The Harry Potter series by Rowling
- The Hunger Games trilogy by Collins
If you haven't read a James Michener book you definitely have to dive into one. They are time CONSUMING but well worth it. Will stretch your reading and will definitely make you crave that level of writing as you look for more books.James Michener

My 8th grade social studies teacher made us read "Centennial" when studying U.S. westward expansion, then my parents took me to visit the Rockies that summer, and I got hooked for life on Michener and history.
I've read 9 of his books, and working as his research assistant used to be my dream job (until he died). The Source made me want to be Biblical archaeologist. I love geology and natural history, so fortunately, I actually like to read the first chapter of his books.
If you like Michener, I highly recommend Edward Rutherfurd.
