Phillip Bryant (phillipmbryant) | 4 comments In recognition of the Civl War 150th anniversary of the fall of Fort Donelson, I am offering They Met at Shiloh free on Kindle, Feburary 15th and 16th, 2012.

Fort Donelson and Fort Henry, two Confederate forts guarding the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers were important to what we now call the Shiloh campaign, ending in that battle. It would be here that General U.S. Grant would earn his nick name Unconditional Surrender Grant for the unyeilding terms he offered to General Buckner.

From here as well Grant would fall under a shadow of suspicion and disfavor from his superior General Halleck and be relieved of command for a time, giving the command of the forces under him to one of his subordinates while they were moved down river to Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh).

The fall of Fort Donelson forced the Confederates to abandon Kentucky and Tennessee to gather around Corinth, MIssissippi. It would be from here that Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston launches his surprise attack on the union forces encamped at Pittsburg Landing.

The novel covers the critical days of April 4th through the 8th, following four soldiers across the battlefield, giving a glimpse of soldier life in the civil war.
