"Since I know someone will ask eventually, if I had to recommend a book on nutrition, it would be the Paleo Diet for Athletes by Loren Cordain & Joe Friel. Simply put, it’s written for human beings who run."

"Anything by Arthur Lydiard. Good luck finding it, as most of his books are out of print, but he is literally (yes, I'm using the word correctly) the founder of modern recreational running and his concepts largely hold true today."

"This is the only non-fiction book I have read cover to cover more than once. And I love to read."

ChasingBoston (Fitocracy moderator) recommends:
"This is another classic by a man who is almost as legendary as Arthur Lydiard. And would a guy named Jack Daniels ever steer you wrong?"
(Note: I've put in the second edition here. The first has a separate entry, and I've read neither, so I don't know which is superior)

ChasingBoston (Fitocracy moderator) recommends:
"This was my first book about running and I still reference it often. You don't have to be competitive to find it to be chock full of great information. I'm not competitive and still love it. It covers every base you could ever need."
(Note: There's also a bunch of different editions for this one, including one called The New Competitive Runner's Handbook that was released in 1988, 11 years before the one I've linked, and I haven't checked the one I've linked is the latest either. If anyone knows better I'll gladly change this)

"Again, don't be fooled by the title, it's not really Advanced, it's loaded with great, sensible advice for aspiring marathoners."

"Jeff is a huge proponent of the Run/Walk method. So much so that it's often called 'Gallowalking'."

ChasingBoston (Fitocracy moderator) recommends:
"Yes, it's oriented towards triathlon, but the running advice is still priceless."
(Note: The author also has written a similarly titled book called The Triathlete's Traning Bible Companion, which may be both of interest to anyone who likes this and a source of confusion to anyone who buys it by mistake)
I've just finished reading Brain Over Brawn by clint Cornelius:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/77...
I'm very new to health and fitness (well, I mean, I've always been healthy but I've only just started thinking about improving and maintaining health and fitness).
From a newbie's point of view this is really clear, informative little book. I don't have enough experience yet to say if its all correct, but it seems commonsensical.
