Why do you love to write?

I think this is a hard question: I love to write. I like words, challenges, creating, the release. My problem is that I have writer's block so I have none of these wonderful things.
PS new to group; hope posting is appropriate.
i like to create my own world and my own charactersi kinda like to give them little events that i might have to deal with and see what would be the best way to deal with them sometimes
Diana, I like creating my own world too--although I do it in a different way from you probably. I just like building the environment and details. I write fiction (no sci fi--although that would be fun, it is not my genre).I like the idea of little events. Maybe that is what I'll start with to try to overcome this writer's block.
Jess
Okay...umm...I'll sit here red with embarassment and my foot stuck in my mouth. Guess I should have looked aroud some more...
I like organizing my world and life into stories. For example, I will notice a connection between something that happened to me when I was a kid, something that happened a few years ago, and something that happened yesterday. I will then imagine a character where these three events form the key events in the story of his life and the three events that most shaped the person he is. And suddenly a plot begins to appear, and for a little bit there, life's purpose seems to be clear, at least for this imaginary character. But since that character is just really a subset of my real chaotic life, it makes me feel like my purpose could also be as clear as the characters, if only I could find the connection between ALL the events in my life. So that's one of the things I love about writing.
I like to see the impossible happen in my mind and to be able to show it to someone else. I have enjoyed many of other writer's books. A dream can spark a thought that can turn into an idea the forms a story that draws me in until the reason I even write is to find out myself what's going to happen? I enjoy writing just to write.
Elena, I like that. I'm going to do that with my next dream. Thanks for the idea--hope you don't mind if I borrow it. Jess
I don't know why. It's freeing in a way. I can express how I feel through characters and what they say and do. I like creating things. I always was a good story teller, so I guess that helped along the way. Writing just makes me feel good. That's the only way to explain it.
I love to write, because it's fun and relaxing. I love telling a story. I write for myself. I'm very shy, when it comes down to my writing. I do let some people read my work and sometimes, although, every story that I write is for me, I do write some stories, just for my eyes only.
Arch, Like you, I am very shy about my writing. Even when I am writing (have writer's block right now and am doing some exercises for it), I have difficulty sharing.I think the joy of just writing is satisfying in itself. I certainly understand why you write some stories just for yourself.
Hi Jessica. I have been writing for 21 years, going on 22 years. Writing is my talent, yet, I have so much to learn about writing. I'm not afraid of criticisms. I'm my own worst critic, trust me. I don't write to get published. Although, a lot of people that read my work thinks that I should write to get published. Getting published isn't something that I want. As for stories for myself - I think that every writer should write stories for themselves.
Arch, I am a harsh critic of myself. I was writing a novel when I started teaching, my writing slowed down. I started teaching a creative writing class and would share some of the work, for fun and critique to get the class started (usually using a rough piece) and then would teach them constructive criticism. As my course load grew, my time grading papers took away any time I had to write. Now...I just am getting started again. Jess
Jessica that's good that you are starting back writing. Sometimes, a writer needs a break. They might not notice that they need a break, but when they get back to their writing, they can see that they did.
Writing is art. Instead of a brush, I use a pen to bring to life a story on the canvas of our imaginations. My goal is to bring Christ to the secular world and to bring joy, love, and peace to those who read my stories. Maybe my stories do not always have a happy ending, but they teach a lesson. Like my short story, "The Cookie Jar," you can try to fill the void inside of you with the things of this world, but all you'll find in the end is an empty cookie jar.
Hi. I don't mean to cut in... I'm a young writer- i've wanted to be one my whole life. I adore using words; anything that has to do with pen and paper (or in this case, keyboard and monitor) i am attracted to like a magnet. What I like is that using words is an amazing way to just let your soul flow onto paper and just chill. You can just put all of your problems and drama and stress or whatever you want to put in there and just look at it and notice that it's an amazing way to just... let go.
Something about writing appeals to all the senses. It's like being in Paris (to which I've never been).Anyhow, it makes everything bright.
I love to write because it is how i express myself. It is my personal process of taking a thought and producing a work of art. It is my release, and my hobby!
I love to write because I can inflict some small part of emotion onto those that I don't believe feel enough. I can attempt to open their eyes and hearts to feelings and ideas that I feel they should know and appreciate. I also enjoy the feeling of looking on a nice, finished copy of a piece that kept me from sleeping.
LOL.I love to write because it lets out anything bottled up and shows off the tiny things in inspiration... and a ton more reasons, but I don't feel like listing them now, lol.
Chandani wrote: "Woah Kenny, i didnt know you were capable of um...deep. lol jk...kinda"Ugh... That's why I am only deep on my pseudonym Wannabe Poet: Master of Nothing. I recently revealed (on both accounts) that W.P is Kenny and Kenny is W.P. See? So simple... Not really.
O hes just talking nonsense about some alias of his....I think. Here give him this *throws mysterious pills at Emma* It will shut him up for a while.lol
Correct, Chandani. Nice. I only told you on 2 different groups... A couple times... A day... Every day... LOL
i like to create my own world and my own charactersi kinda like to give them little events that i might have to deal with and see what would be the best way to deal with them sometimes
I write because I can't help it...not that I have hypergraphia (where you physically just keep writing and writing) but because if I did, the world wouldn't make as much sense.
writing helps me understand things, the way that oxygen helps the brain keep ticking over.
not that that means I'm any good!
I HATE WRITING...THAT'S WHY I WRITE. THE SHRINK SAYS I'M A MASOCHIST. READ MY WORK AND YOU'LL AGREE THAT I'M ALSO ABUNDANTLY SADISTIC. I INFECT MY READERS WITH THE METABOLITES PRODUCED BY MY MAGGOT INFESTED BRAIN.DON'T BELIEVE ME? TRY THIS...IT'S SAFE.

Brian, that describes it perfectly! That's why you are a writer, because you can show actions and emotions.
I write because I find it relaxing and for me it is a way to unwind. I can take all those extra little thoughts and write them down on paper in the form of a story or poem. I also write for myself. I agree with a lot of what has been said here. Jessica - From one Jessica to another :) When I hit writers block I get very frustrated as well. Sometimes I find random things will help renew my inspiration. Either a song, a movie a personal experience or even reading a book. Usually I am not thinking about the story I am working on. Sometimes I think the best thing to do is leave that story alone for a while and come back to it. I agree with Brian though, I think it is mostly luck. Hang in there! You will have an Ah Ha moment soon!
I write because I cannot imagine not writing, it would be like not breathing. I get lost in the words and the stories that slosh around in my head.A couple of you have complained about writers block. What worked very well for me over the past year is doing the various writing prompt found online, like Fiction Friday over at Write Anything. Give them a bash, and do not allow your inner editor to stop you from writing. Get the words out, no matter how bad. You can always rewrite later.
Writing is just like everything else - your ability will improve the more you do it.

... I just like writing in general...
