My questions for Kaui: I loved watching the father learn to parent his children and often thought he responded to them and their questions in a great way. How did you decide to develop him into an absentee parent into one that had sole responsibility - the difference between the two roles is quick a contrast? Did you use a role model for his character and his parenting skills? And for the other readers: Did you feel he was effective as a parent? Which child did he parent best? Did the things he said and did "pass" only because the family was in turmoil?

He didn't have much choice in the matter! He was forced to step up and become a father and take a crash course in parenting. Unfortunately there are no Cliff's Notes for this one and so there was a lot of trial and error and learning from unexpected places and people (including his daughter, Alex, and ironically, Sid).
