Hi Angie, I think the books you're thinking of are called 'choose your own adventure' books - there are heaps of them around.
Those books are very...i dnt know...not good. the author should pick the ending, its their story..dnt see why they write them...what to please people?
Courtney, I think to begin with the 'choose your own adventure' series are written for children. I remembered liking it when I was little, probably not so now...
I haven't read them since middle school... but I remember back then thinking they were the best thing ever! After Karen told me the name, I have one reserved at the library and will try it out as an adult. These books probably aren't even for YA they are probable more for children but I am not sure till I get my hands on one.
Speaking of choose your own adventure, I've heard one involving Austen-ish books / eras (not quite sure exactly)Being Elizabeth Bennett: Create Your Own Jane Austen Adventure by Emma Campbell Wester

I've picked my copy up from the library, Angie but haven't looked quite yet...Let me know what you think, if you get there first ;)
I think I am going to have to request my library to get it, I looked at their catalog and I don't think they have a copy!
This takes me back, I also remember reading them around 5th grade or so... I used to cheat though, if I didn't like where I ended up, I go back and try another route!
