Justine Philyaw (jphilyaw) It's tough to narrow this topic down. One of the most memorable scenes I have ever read is in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It's the day World War I begins. Francie, the narrator, realizes that her life will never be the same, so she tries to freeze the moment in her mind. It is touching, sad, and sweet all at the same time.

There are also a lot of really funny scenes in A Walk in the Woods Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
