Discuss below. :)

Zoe Yes, definitely. And their description.

Cassandra (cassmarie) | 7 comments Great question!!
I don't really judge a book by it's cover but I am more willing to pick up a book and check it out if it hasn't a nice one. That's not saying I won't read a book because I don't like the cover. I go based on things I hear around the internet, if it's in a prominent space at the book store, etc. If I notice it, I'll look at it and see if it sounds worth reading. :D

Gi (clarawho) I actually do judge a book by its cover and description too.

Samantha (samanthaofalaska) | 3 comments I absolutely do, but that doesn't mean I'm not open to lame covers - since the cover is the first thing I see, that, combined with the title, is what catches my eye about a book. And then I read the back. If I'm not caught in the first sentence or two, I put it back. But since I tend to spend TONS of time in bookstores, I repeatedly pick up the same book ten to fifteen times before actually buying it. That's how I came across stuff like Blue Bloods (which I spent like six months deciding on) and even Guilty Pleasures. But sometimes I buy a book because a friend said it was awesome (Hunger Games) or because it's by an author I already love (I grab anything by Chuck Palahniuk). But most often, I look at covers and titles.

Soso K (soso28) | 88 comments I totally agree with everything Samantha said (except the Chuck Palahniuk thing because I've never read any of his books).

He's an adult author - he wrote Fight Club.

Soso K (soso28) | 88 comments Ooooh. I didn't know that was a book. I'm more into young adult paranormal romance, but my brother watched the movie so I'll be sure to tell him to read the book.

Caron Rider | 27 comments If I did, I never would have bought the Hunger Games! So sometimes it's what people say about the book and/or the description. Or it might be a specific author (I read everything by Anne McCaffrey, for instance). Plus it might be that a really cool looking movie is coming out and I want to read the story first!

I've got a pretty wide variety of loves - but I'd say most of what I've got is PR!

message 25: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) Wow, such a great discussion. So many of us get drawn by the cover and back cover blurb. It is such an important part of getting a book out there. I would really appreciate your help as I am working on the back cover blurb for my YA stalker series. Please hop over to my blog http://anangellslife.blogspot.com/ and take a look at the options I have for my back cover and let me know which one appeals the most to you? I will have front cover options up on Wednesday and would appreciate your insight there as well. Thanks so much!
