Was Killing Cal Neccessary?

Totally uncalled for, I find it hurtful when they use nice character to suit their selfish means and to add insult to injury his Soul ends up trapped on that awful island.

Hell freaking NO!
I had the feeling he was killed off so that Archer and Sophie would be happy happy joy joy and wouldn't have to worry about Cal's feelings.

No, I think killing him wasn't necessary.

I think the ending was rushed, plus she totally ruined the ending by killing Cal. I felt he was more mature and better matched. It seems like the author just wanted to wrap things up quick and move on to something else. It is a shame as I loved her series up until this book. Even if there is another book in the series, I am not bothering with it. I dislike when this happens in a series, as you have invested so much time in reading them.

i just finished the book and as soon as cal died i cried till the book ended. i did not like it one bit. i still do love the series tho, but i REALLY was not expecting CAL of all people to die. i REALLY hated the ending!!!! i wish she would have given the book a happy ending instead of such a tragic one...
oooh and was this the last book to the series???

I think so. I mean, some characters aren't meant to have happy endings, some just have to die as a sacrifice for the other characters. I thought it was handled well and the series wrapped up neatly.

Honestly, Cal was the sacrifice lamb in this story. I am quite disappointed with the ending, sorry for Archer Fans but i really thought it was Archer who will die at the end of the story to give way for Cal and Sophie...I really don't want the character that been put up for Archer here...I mean come to think of it, being dishonest to Sophie in the first place plus betraying his own kind i don't see the beauty of Sophie and Archer together and for all the sacrifices of Cal doesn't he deserve to have the love of Sophie??? Sorry, i think i am being emotional here...LOL
I am still for team CAL!!!

*deep breath*

I loved Cal. I FREAKING LOVED Cal. I thought he was the greatest character, and I thought Sophie was an idiot for picking Archer over him.

I expected Cal to die, though.
Because I knew there was no way for him to be happy without Sophie. I know Cal "said" that he THOUGHT he might have loved Sophie, but I don't buy for a minute that he was okay with her going off with Archer. Every single action he does in the ENTIRE series can be traced back to "for Sophie", and I knew he was probably going to die because of it. Make one last sacrifice just for her.

It's not that Cal died that really gets to me. Not the act itself. I would have been fine is Sophie spent the rest of eternity withering away in her grief for Cal's sacrifice.

What gets me is this.

The four of them go to Hell. Literally. All of them see terrible, awful things, the worst things EVER IN THEIR LIVES. Nobody knows what Cal sees and Sophie only says she heard herself screaming.
Now, the worst thing HELL ITSELF could dish out was a vision of Sophie falling into that pit for Cal? That was the WORST THING IN THE UNIVERSE, the one thing that would hurt him the absolute most? That really gets me. "It's okay Sophie, I'll be okay, I'll move on." HECK NO. The worst thing in Cal's entire UNIVERSE was Sophie dying. *feels heart being stabbed*

And then he saves her. He jumps in and pushes her out and dies FOR HER.

And what, she mourns him for a page?
That's what made me angry. Sophie didn't even THINK about him at the end of the book! There was a page dedicated to crying over Cal, and he DESERVED SO MUCH MORE. He did EVERYTHING for her, and he DIED for her, and none of them even THINK about him afterward!

Ughghghg, it's such an injustice. I spent HOURS crying over Cal's death. Sophie could have at LEAST had a little mourning time.

I think killing Cal was the only way for a happy ending. Sophie get Archer, Elodie gets Cal. Everyone's happy. Also, Cal never wanted to leave the island.:)

The whole 'love triangle' was unnecessary and there is nothing worst when a writer takes the easy way out by killing one of the suitors. Ridiculous.

No. He deserved a better ending
