So I was just told that in olden days when 2 groups of people were at war, the triumphant group had two choices: two slaughter their captives or take them into slavery. If you were captured, would you rather live as a slave or die?

Slavery, I'm not going to go suicidal... It would hurt my pride, yes, but I want to live, even if it's with a chain on my neck <.<

I'd rather die than be a slave. I have too much pride, besides, the Jewish people have been slaves once, it didn't go so well.
Plus, why would anyone want ME as a slave??? Way too lazy.

Oh I forgot, I can't do suicide because it's against my religion. If I'm not wrong, it's the same for Jews as well though I'm not too sure

Yes. But they'd be the ones killing me, wouldn't they?

I think all monotheistic religions are against suicide, it implies giving up on God, I think.

Um actually I think it's like that you're giving up the gift God has given you. I'm not sure, though. I wouldn't do it, though, when the time comes. I'd be too afraid.

Ironically, deciding to end your life takes great strength, because it runs contrary to our instinct for self-preservation. I remember a story in Gandhi's biography where he and another young boy tried to commit suicide but failed to go through with it. He writes:

"I realized that it was not as easy to commit suicide as to contemplate it. And since then, whenever I have heard of someone threatening to commit suicide, it has had little or on effect on me."

Yeah, that's what I meant. I don't posses that sort of - mental OR physical - strength.

I would rather be a slave than dead. I have the hope of escape as a slave, I believe I am witty enough to figure a way out of my predicament.

I rather die. I'll try to fight back and yeah I don't believe in suicide. I'll trying to escape from them and they'll just probably kill me for resenting.

Slave. It's a sin to commit suicide in my religion.

Slave. I dont want to die without at least trying to escape first, Im the type who never gives up to easily-Im too stubborn for that. If there really is no other option I'd make sure I die taking down at least one of my 'masters' or guards with me because dying would be a waste otherwise if I cant even give them a little bit of pain as I go.
If Im gonna go down Im not gonna make it easy for them and Im gonna down fighting to take one of them with me.

that's such a hard question, but I think i'd rather die. i hate the idea of suicide but I have too much pride to be a slave.

I'd rather live as a Slave. Way back when they treated their Slaves really good a lot of the time.
I LOVE to Cook, so I would've been A GREAT Cook back then. I would've worked hard, too.
I REALLY don't think it was right when they use to beat their Slaves, especially when the people that had them thought that they stole anything. They would give them "scraps" of food to eat. Not all people did that, though. Some people that had Slaves would actually feed them.
Yet, some of the Slaves were born into Slavery.

Slave..though I dont think Ill make it as one, Im wayy too proud to be pushed aroung into doing something. I only wouldnt want to be killed cuz id rather work for my 'master' and poisen/kill them and then die happily =P I believe in revenge

Depends on the reason for slavery and capture. If it was because I was the last of my kind, I would attempt to live as a slave and gather everything I could about what I was slaving to do and who my captures were.

If I was a slave helping my capture kill/get other slaves by making weapons perhaps or serving their army, I would kill myself.

I think I'd like to be a slave. Sure, it would be hard, but even though so, I have God to keep me strong. I like to work and clean, so I don't think I'd be treated too badly. And also, I love life. The sun, the air, landscapes, and hope. To choose death is to give up hope. Hope is a treasure never worth giving up.

Well I wouldn't commit suicide, but I WILL fight to the death before being taken as a slave.

I agree 100%. It would be terrible and scary to die. I too would pick being Slave over Death any day.

I would make a deal. A fight, winner chooses the fate of the other. I feel this way I can go down with a fight and I will go with what fate has chosen for me. I would rather die than realize that the people/monsters I am now a slave to have no mercy in their hearts. Free will is important to me, you cannot say that I would just give myself up to the enemy, but if I did become a slave I would fight against the rule of my suppressors. Besides this way I have a chance at least. A duel or death. I will not go quietly into slavery.
