Don't think I can narrow this down to one choice... When I was a freshmen in high school, I remember really enjoying The Lilies of the Field and A Separate Peace.
During my senior year, I had one of the best English teachers ever, and she made us read a ton of stuff, including The Catcher in the Rye which, as I have mentioned before, is one of my all-time favorite books and put me on the path to becoming an English teacher (sorry, Holden).
Then, when I got to college, I had to read Waiting for the Barbarians which turned everything I thought I knew upside down, and that made it pretty cool.
As a teacher, I love reading Julius Caesar each year with my sophomores.
