Just finished The Oxford Murders. As I remember from the first time of reading it, it was ingenious (mathematical series + a series of murders + philophy + loads of red herrings) but, as before, I found it hard to engage with the characters and was ultimately unsatisfied. Still, it was not unenjoyable, and certainly worth a read if you like crime mysteries.
Well done Alondra, I read it last year so understand what a challenge that was. Getting a good translation seemed the first big hurdle! Drink? You probably need two!
i've just finished bearers of the black staff by terry brooks and i woul defintely recomend this book to any fantasy fan who loves a bit of a roller coaster ride alongside the main characters. :)
Finished Hollow Earth by John Barrowman a day or so ago. Quite well written YA fantasy set in Scotland (where the Torchwood and Doctor Who star was born), though I wouldn't say it was perfect.
I really, really enjoyed Soulless
, the book I picked for our "steampunk" theme. So good I downloaded Changeless
for my kindle and started reading straight away. This appears every bit as good as the first, and I've discovered ther are three more to the series. A mixture of imagination, intrigue and silliness - I'm addicted!
Chris wrote: "I really, really enjoyed Soulless, the book I picked for our "steampunk" theme. So good I downloaded Changeless..."I've seen good reviews of this series on LibraryThing, so will have to look out for them!
I really liked Soulless too. Like Chris says "a mixture of imagination, intrigue and silliness". Fantastic! I must dig my copy of Changeless out of my TBR mountain.
Angela wrote: "I finished The Lost Book of Salem this morning. Not at all bad!"Is this the same book as The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane? I've had it on my kindle for ages, but can't seem to get to it. Must move it up the list!

yes it is
I've just finished The Company Of Shadows. I enjoyed it, but slightly preferred Ruth Newman's debut Twisted Wing. Both are psychological thrillers where situations aren't always all that they seem and you can't be sure you really know what the various characters are really up to. I'll definitely read anything else she produces.
Just finished To Say Nothing of the Dog. Time travel and a Victorian comedy of manners smooshed together brilliantly; it was a lot of fun. Oh, and a very well-plotted mystery.
Write a childrens book and get it published. This book is very informative, gives loads of information, its the sort of book that you can keep going back to for help time and time again.
The exercises proved very useful and makes you think what and how you are writing.
A very good teaching book, a virtual tutor by your side.
This week, I've finished The Sisters Brothers and Start the Car: The World According to Bumble. I still don't know what I felt about The Sisters Brothers - need to think about it a bit more! Start the Car was funny and informative!
William Faulkner's LIGHT IN AUGUST. Great book, but not easy reading.See: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27...
I've just finished Nightchild by Jame Barclay and it was a fantastic read, even though it took me a long time to read due to exams it was still a great read.
I've just finished A Small Case for Inspector Ghote?. It was a humourous crime novel with a quite distinctive main character. I didn't know what to make of it at first because it switches between third person and first person narrative, but not in a way I've come across before. I definitely want to read more though even though I'm still trying to decide if I liked it or it was irritating!
Just completed a couple of books that I started ages ago, The Kashmir Shawl by Rosie Thomas and Ken Follett's Fall of Giants. War themes for both but very different books. At least that is 2 off the pile of "currently reading" I've been tripping over! Going to try to complete all the "part read" books befoe starting on new ones, the list is pretty long thoughThe Key
Heartless
Seize the Night
The Moon Coin
Anno Dracula
The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry
Catching Fire
Phantom
That should keep me out of trouble!
I finished The Bookshop and Book 1 of New Frontier - a strange challenge recommendation in another group! I've got 2 novels to finish at the moment and several non-fiction, the most immediate being At Home: A Short History of Private Life as it's a library book.
just finished te black house well i never finished it didnt keep my attention throughout the chapters. i got up to chapter 10. its been a while since i gave up on a book, at least not since last year. :)
I finished Interview With the Vampire a couple of days ago. I tried it about 20 years ago and couldn't get into it, but liked it more this time. Certainly a dark and compelling read and not at all like more modern vampire stories that I've read.
just finished the elves of cintra by terry brooks it was a great read even though it took me a long time to read
Just finished An Uncommon Whore and I loved it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes their sci/fi with a bit of spice.

it looks interesting to read, when i first looked at the cover it looks like a romance erotica book not sci/fi. :)

Alondra wrote: "Just finished Les Misérables. And that is all I have to say about that! Drink please..."Oh dear! No good?
I recently finished John Dies at the End, and thought it was pretty good. A bit confusing at times, but the first book I've ever read with laugh out loud moments (nice try A Confederacy of Dunces!)
just finished zombie apocalypse it was a very captivating read as it hel my attention throughout the book. if anyone wants a serious read and you like zombies then read it. :)
Thia week, I've finished Matterhorn, a brilliant book set in Vietnam during the war in the 1960s; At Home: A Short History of Private Life, an enjoyable non-fiction book by Bill Bryson and a wonderful short read - 84, Charing Cross Road. All quite different. Have posted reviews on them all.

It is erotica but its in the sci/fi genra. It has a great story to it.
Bridgette wrote: "i just finished robopocalyose by daniel h wilson a very interesting read. :)"I read this one not long ago, loved it too.
I finished reading another poetry collection by Heather Grace Stewart this morning. It's called
...I thoroughly enjoyed it; lots of variety.
Bridgette wrote: "just finished fifty shadesof grey by el james a good read but to many sex scenes for my liking."I was reading this one and not sure if I'm gonna finish it or not. There's just no story and the characters get on my nerves.
I've recently finished The Black God's War which was really good. It reminded me alot of Homer's Illiad.
I finished Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time which actually was interesting. Well, the travel editor retracing Hiram Bingham's supposed trek to discover Machu Pichu was interesting but not so much the rather dry parts lifted from Bingham's book. Glad I read it though.

They are very annoying. I can't figure out why this was a best seller. Is it worth finishing? At this point I don't think I want to.
