Thanks to everyone who voted in our Jane Austen poll. I will be reading Pride and Prejudice in April and writing about it here. Feel free to read it with me! If you have already read this book, what should I look out for? What themes did you identify? What did you relate to about the characters?

Gemma | 2 comments Read it slowly and look out for the humour. Mr Bennett has developed a fantastic sense of humour in order to survive living with Mrs Bennett.

I am having to read it slowly because of time constraints, and also some of the language; it was written a long time ago. I want to read more classics, so this is good practice. Austen is doing a great job of convincing me that Darcy is a jerk.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Hi everyone. April is almost over and I have not finished this book. I did not appreciate how difficult the book is until I started. Now I am determined to get through it. I will start it over in June. In the meantime, my wife asked me to read this book:

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James

And she pretty much trumps everyone else in the world.

Have any of you read "Grey?" Did you like it? I am interested in how Anastasia feels at first- she sees Grey for the jerk he is, but is drawn to him in spite of herself. I feel that way about House (the title character from the TV show). Maybe Grey will be a Houselike figure.

I also started this book:

Betsey Brown by Ntozake Shange

And am about 3/4 done with:

Polly by Amy Bryant

For a middle-aged guy, I sure am interested in women's coming-of-age stories. I wonder what that's about.

The Lit Bitch | 6 comments Middle aged, you are only 4 years older than me LOL I am NOT middle age yet LOL :)

I just read an interesting coming of age story called The Earthquake Machine....its a contempo YA book, but I would put it as more of an adult lit book...a little more graphic than a YA novel to say the least. I wasn't sure that I would like it when I read the summary...it sounded a little weird to me but after I started reading it I got into it and decided it was pretty good. It is a coming of age novel about a young girl and her personal journey and dealing with death, change, culture, feminism, and family. Might be worth a read through :)
