Lori Brrrr, it's cold outside! Perfect soup time. I'd appreciate any wonderful recipes you might have.

Valerie I love the roasted butternut squash soup listed in the "Soup" section. I know it's not exactly in season, but I make it all year round. It's the most beautiful color when it's finished - it never fails to lift my spirits.

I'm not a huge fan of potato leek soup, but I had a bunch of potatoes and leeks and (surprise!) made some. I added some cut up turkey kielbasa, fresh baby spinach leaves and about half a bag of frozen white corn that was in the freezer, and it was perfect for a cold winter day.

Lori Yes Val, I've already copied your squash recipe, and I'm definitely going to make it after the potato leek soup from the Joy of Cooking, all the other cookbooks included pureeing, and I happen to like chunks of potato.

Ginnie - I had a dream about TJ last night before I read your recipe, weird!

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) I have one!

Two cans beef stew
One can corn
One can green beans
Broth (chicken, pork, beef...)
Oegano, curry, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley (to taste)
Sour cream or cottage cheese (optional)

Dump everything together in a pot and heat till warm. It's really good with saltine crackers. You can add sour cream or cottage cheese to mellow the flavor if you add too much curry or are sensitive to spices. :)

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Love the site name! Kitchen Illiterate is a great name, lol. And I want to try some of those recipes now. I'm especially intrigued by the bacon+pomegranate combo...what's it like?
