Trilogy's - Do you wait for all three before buying?

I personally would rather read the whole series straight through. I do not like the wait and I feel like by the time the follow up books are released you have to go back to read the first book to refresh your memory.

I read a fair amount and sometimes very different genre, so if I have to wait, I definitely have to refresh my memory or miss some of the subtle carryover nuances from book to book. I've caught myself scratching my head trying to remember something that happened in the first book that is referred to in a subsequent book, and have to go back and search for a passage for clarification. Grrrr.

I'm always late with the whole new books coming out so about the time when I discover them the whole series is done lol
If a book is being talked about a ton/getting a lot of great reviews - or I've gotten it to review and it sounds like something I'll love, I will read the first book before the others are out. A lot of times, however, I will wait until the later books are out first.I'm more likely to read books in a trilogy (or longer series) before they're all released if I have an idea - at least a vague one - of when the others will be released. If the book says 'Book 2 is out on x date and Book 3 on x date' that encourages me to read Book 1 before they're released (I know I won't be waiting years or never getting the rest of the story).
I read trilogies however I find them. But if it's in between books I usually don't mind waiting for them. There is one exception to that rule, but only because it's now been at least 10 years between the 2nd and 3rd book and there's no sign the author wants to even finish the trilogy. For that trilogy, despite how much I loved the characters, I wish I knew now what I knew then and never even started it.
So, basically, as long as writers plan on finishing what they start, I have no problem with reading a trilogy as it's being published rather than waiting until the end.
Normally I wait for all the books to be available before I start a series. I'm not really patient, although if the series is just starting and sounds amazing, I will just get it as it becomes available.
I don't mind waiting, if it's a good story. I've waited out next books quite a few times over the years. I figure there are plenty of other things to read in between, and if the books in the series are REALLY good, rereading is certainly an option.
Although I came into it late, I'm waiting on George RR Martin to finish the next two books in A Song of Ice and Fire.
I waited on the Harry Potters, and while I enjoy them very, very much, I know they're not that great.
And I've read several of Jack Chalker's series waiting for the next book to come out.
There is an advantage, though, to writing the whole thing at one go, and that is it becomes easier to remain consistent in the story, plot, and tone.
I tend to wait but not always, I know it's a series but I am reading The Fire and Ice series and there are only 5 books out. I just had to read them tho even if not all of them are out.
I never read books in a serie back to back (even if the serie/trilogy is finished). I like to wait for the next one (!): it allows me to think about the story.
I tend to wait for the author to learn to spell the word. That's a big benchmark for me, especially when it comes to self-publishing.
Trilogies! WEEEEE!!! I too am currently working on a trilogy. Hopefully it works out, even with a few spelling errors which are unavoidable. Even the professionally edited and published books always have one or two misspellings. But it does make for a more professional presentation when there aren't so many glaring errors to worry's aboot. :p
I like to have the entire series/trilogy available when I start reading, but that doesn't stop me, I'm currently enthralled by the Starcrossed trilogy, and the second book only came out today. And of course I've been reading one series for the last 15 years *cough*Wheel of Time*coughcough*.
So I guess is just really depends on when I come across the books to begin with.
I have to go back Amd Reread Lauren Kate's passion cause I have all her ebooks now on my fireI found them
Online and changed to mobi & uploaded them all!
I prefer them all at once BUt have waited..
I start whenever I get into it. I grew up waiting on the next Harry Potter book to release, so I'm used to it. :p I don't like waiting particularly, but if I want to start a series I will whether its completed or not.

I have 3 trilogies I'm following where I've read the 1st 2 books, and now I wait for the third edition. It's driving me nuts, because all three were recently read & it's taken awhile for the third. Whenever these 3 come out, I'm going to have to reread the 1st book to remind myself of the story. Unfortunately, I'm hooked. I thought all three authors did a great job, and now I wait, and wait, and wait.
No, I don't wait. If I find a book I want to read, I'm not going to wait 2 or 3 years. Sometimes it's frustrating when I do have to wait for the next book but I live with it.

Love to hear your opinion from personal experience.
Thanks.
