There was a request posted in another group dedicated to finding names of books for people. I am going to duplicate the post here as this particular one involves time travel. If the description is familiar please post what you think it is and I will relay it. If the other group finds the answer first, I will post the answer here as it sounds like a book we time travellers should be aware of ;)

Post by Ann aka Iftcan:

I remember a great deal about this book. There are a number of people who are able to move through time physically. They are born at different times and kind of wander around at will. They also don't seem to age.

The main character is male, and he meets another man who is like him. This man was born before the Civil War in the South, and has that mentality. This second man has set up a group of others who all have their abilities. The headquarters are set far in the past.

The main character joins the group for a while, but isn't able to take the leader's prejudice and dismissal of everyone who isn't a white, male.

The main character goes back to the past after splitting with the group and falls in love with a Levantine girl, whom he marries and lives with. The second man finds him and arranges for her murder during one of the barbarian invasions of the city he's living in (which is one of the "biggies" from history. The only two I'm sure its NOT is Rome and Athens. I think its probably Constantinople.)

Oh, and the people (mostly male, I think) who are able to travel through time are also sterile.

Thanks Louie, it sounded like a good guess and it also crossed my mind but Ann has just replied:

Tej--I went over and looked at the link. Someone there suggested Up the Line by Robert Silverberg. I checked it out and that is definately NOT the book I'm looking for.

In my book the only "rules" are the ones that the people set for themselves, and there the people were unable to take anyone else (except possibly a small child) with them, as they were restricted to what they could carry. Which

K55f | 29 comments Time Patrol by Poul Andersen maybe?
I remember Constantinople in it, rebels fighting the Time Patrol heros, and a training center in the distant past.
