Is there anyone still paying attention?

I'm very new to the group, but I'm haoping it will be a bit more active than others I have joined. One thing I would enjoy hearing is about people's favorite authors and why they are favorites. I tend to pick up books that look interesting, or that are on topics I like, but when I find an author I enjoy (whether fiction or non-fiction) I tend to read everything I can get my hands on by that person. Thus, I am always on the lookout for fresh (to me) and interesting authors.

Hi, Jennie, we haven't had a moderator active since spring, so I finally threw my hat in the ring last month but didn't see any response.

Now that I know at least two of you are out there (is there anyone else? Buehler...? Buehler...?), I am happy to take your suggestions and may also introduce some new ideas of my own.

I've checked the site a few times as well. I'm not a big fan of LDS fiction - more the non-fiction books but I'm always open to suggestions.

Janell, the Rent Collector by Camron Wright is based on a real family and Toni Sorenson's The Shaken Earth deals with the Haiti disaster. Both have a strong appeal for readers who prefer non-fiction over fiction, but enjoy some of the more serious fiction. I loved both of these books, partly because of their themes and partly because they're well written.

I check when there are notifications. I joined in on a few books. I would like a year agenda if possible so I could pick which books to join in on.

I'm not sure I'm up for any more group reads at this point. We always seemed to pick books that didn't appeal to me as much.

My very favorite author is Terry Pratchett. Right now I'm reading Playing the Enemy about South African history. It was made into the movie Invictus. It's a good book, but a lot of history and names and not a lot of action. I think the movie would be better. Also reading Bone Rattler set in colonial America. Got a little bogged down there too.

I'm not sure we'll do a group read; I'm not that crazy about them, either, although if some people like them, I'm open to having a thread along those lines. I'm more interested in people's comments about what they are currently reading (and therefore like Cindy's and Jennie's comments where they mentioned titles).

I will try to introduce more topics in the next few days (as soon as I get some free time) that I hope will enliven and diversify our discussions. I welcome any suggestions!
