What?! That's insane! I've heard that there are over 3,000 symbols you need to memorize. What do those symbols mean and why do they all mean the same thing?

Their all forms of "ah" in different alphabets. Japanese combines the alphabets for different emphasis.l like store names and exclamations are spelled in katakana while normal writing is in hiragana. Kanji is very formal. あ (hiragana) ア (katakana) 間 (kanji)
