What do you think of it? Any favorite characters?

I haven't read it.. Is it good???

I'm reading it now. Its pretty good but a little strange. Its set in the future but they act like they are from the past...

errrrr.... the ones set in the future bother me. Most of them end up being rather ridiculous.

It's not that far into the future...at least I don't think it's that far into the future

I think it is set in present day but with a twist with what it would be like with certain outcomes making it futuristic.

But Rhine said that she imagined what it would have been like in the twenty first century so I think its a little after that?

I have to read this one still. Is it good?

Erika, you are right. I feel also as if they act like they are in the past. At least as I am reading it this is how I picture them. I am about half way through and I like it.

its set in the 21st century but it's very 19th century early 20th century topics although these topics are still very prevalent in our society (think third world countries). My favorite character was Jenna (or is it JEnny) I'm hoping Fever will be better, Rhine whines way to much but does NOthing to help herself until the very very end.

I believe it is Jenna and I agree with Rhine whining all the time.
The ending wasn't very good in my opinion and I'm not sure if I'll read Fever. To those who have read Fever does it get better?

I love this series! Fever was even better to me. I know some would disagree. But the ending in fever was AMAZING!

Beautifully crafted with eloquent sentences, an engaging plot, and distinguished characters.

Granted, some elements were not well-developed: the extreme oblivious nature of Linden, the evil of Housemaster Vaughn, and the love between Gabriel and Rhine; however, the book was engaging.


Were there problems with this book? Yes! To me the more serious problems are found in the spoiler section of my review. I am curious if others felt the same way, so if you have read the book, read my spoiler section, and tell me how you feel about the issues I mentioned. Despite the problems, this book a good read with an engaging plot.

The biggest problem with this book was I did not truly feel the evil of housemaster Vaughn. The characters were afraid of him, and I didn't understand why. The author explored that in the middle and end when we learn how much he has controlled Linden, the way he killed Rose's child, and his responsibility for Jenna's death, but in the beginning of the book, I was left confused as to why the characters were so scared of him. I just do not feel his character was developed fully enough.

And, I really, really, really wanted more of the love story between Gabriel and Rhine. They just all of the sudden cared for each other, and I had no idea why.

I also wanted more development with Linden's character. Keep his ignorance, since it is necessary, albeit frustrating, but allow him to develop in other ways. He was too flat, but yet, I found myself wanting to know him and wanting to care about him.

But, all in all, I did like this book. In the next book, I would like Linden to come out of his ignorant state and discover that the wives were kidnapped. If he stays in an ignorant state, I will be upset. Linden really deserves more development. I clearly understand why he had to stay in ignorance for this book, but he needs to come out of it eventually.

I hope for an exciting love triangle between Linden, Rhine, and Gabriel, and a happy, joyous reunion between Rhine and Rowain.

A lot of people say that Rhine whines too much, but I really didn't notice at all. I saw an internal conflict with wanting to leave ad receive freedom, and being there for Linden and her sister wives. An internal conflict doesn't strike me as whiny, especially when she did attempt to leave, and she realized with her second attempt, it would need to be more planned; thus, it would take time. I wouldn't say she didn't do anything, but rather she was planning it all out. I have read plenty of books where the lead girl whines; to me, this wasn't one of those obnoxious woe is me characters.

I really wanted to read this before the month ended. I might have to jump in next month after finals. I dedicated myself to too many books. :(

I read the book and enjoyed it, and I also read Fever. To me, Linden doesn't sound very interesting in the book but I still like him better than Gabriel

I really enjoyed this. Haven't read Fever yet though :)

I really love the name of this series. Is it a good read for males as well? i.e. full of action, easy on the romance, lol.

not a lot of action but there isn't a lot of romance either. I personally would not pick it as a guy read. its in the same genre as delerium and matched but personally this is my favorite right now of the three. there is more talking/internal conflict stuff going on in this book and less of the running from the government action. although I did enjoy the mystery of the housemaster...

I enjoyed this book a lot. I am not a big reader of dystopian fiction, but this one interested me.

I really liked this novel but I feel, as most YA trilogies seem to be, each novel was less grand than the one before and the series had a bland ending.

this series by far blew me away. please pick this trilogy up! I love it and it's such an easy read!!!
