Here we go again - it's time to nominate your books to be our group reads for May.

We're following Kirsty's rules set last month, so please nominate at least one classic and at least one recent book, published in the last five years. Each book nominated gets one point and the top three go into the poll, which opens on the 8th. You can change your vote up until the 7th.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes After a glowing recommendation from Lildancer, I really want to read this. It's supposed to be a good weepie.

The Sealed Letter by Emma Donoghue I changed my vote to this, because I really want to read some of the books on the Orange Prize longlist and I enjoyed Room.

A Passage to India by E.M. Forster I've got a beautiful hardback edition of this but I need a push to actually read it!

Kerry Bridges | 121 comments The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection by Alexander McCall Smith - I love these books, they are just gentle, kind stories.
Anno Dracula (Anno Dracula, #1) by Kim Newman - bit of a cheat really as it's been republished - but actually 20 years old.........
RSVP by Helen Warner - this one looks like an easy read

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments The Midwife A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times by Jennifer Worth I have taken a great interest in this since watching the series and would love to read it

Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson Won lots of awards and sounds interesting

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins Everyone has probably already read these (might lend to good discussion?) but I only just bought the trilogy today :)

You select bookcover, rather than book Aimee. You can change them manually by editing the bit in aquare brackets from book to bookcover :-)

Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin Pretty cover! I love Alice in Wonderland and I've read other works by Lewis Carroll and about his life. How much of this is based on truth, I'm not so sure ... but I would love to read it.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes I'd not read about this before seeing Sophia's nomination, but I quite like the sound of it.

Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut Classic that I've had on my must-read-soon list for a while.

Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese Cutting for Stone - again.
"An unforgettable journey into one man’s remarkable life, and an epic story about the power, intimacy, and curious beauty of the work of healing others"

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez One Hundred Years of Solitude - again ;) "Pipes and kettledrums herald the arrival of gypsies on their annual visit to Macondo, the newly founded village where José Arcadio Buendía and his strong-willed wife, Úrsula, have started their new life. As the mysterious Melquíades excites Aureliano Buendía and his father with new inventions and tales of adventure, neither can know the significance of the indecipherable manuscript that the old gypsy passes into their hands.

Through plagues of insomia, civil war, hauntings and vendettas, the many tribulations of the Buendía household push memories of the manuscript aside. Few remember its existence and only one will discover the hidden message that it holds"

Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin Alice I Have Been - same as Ness but I love this cover. "Part love story, part literary mystery, Melanie Benjamin’s spellbinding historical novel leads readers on an unforgettable journey down the rabbit hole, to tell the story of a woman whose own life became the stuff of legend"

Oh yes that's a nice cover too Kirsty ... and looking on Amazon I think it's the only one we can get in the UK. Glad you like the sound of it x

I like the sound of Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin so I'll go for that one too.
Also, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith because it keeps coming up on my recommendations list

bookishbat (morgaine_cat) | 90 comments okay, I'll nominate Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and The Sealed Letter by Emma Donoghue (again). but I can't think of a third one right now, so I'll have to have a little pondering.
I can still add and/or change my mind until the 7th, is that right? (oops, I just re-read the first post, it says it right there, d'oh!)

Becky McWilliams Guinness (billiesue) Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë - my favourite ever book. Was thinking of re-reading it.

Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin - I love the look of this one too.

Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman - I picked this up at the library and it looks really good.
