Tell us about the book or books have you recently purchased on-line or off-line? Let us know the bookstore and prices etc.

Nilu | 17 comments **Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie from Amazon.com price $11.99 = LKR 1,523/- (Kindle version)

**The Litigators -John Grisham from Vijitha Yapa (Crescat Br) price - LKR 1,100 (paperback) usually a paperback cost around LKR 570/- to 720/- max. Guess the inflation has affected the price of books too :(

Thank you very much for letting know of the Amazon prices. I've never purchased books online. I usually visit Makeen, Jeya or Vijitha Yapa.

The last book I bought for myself is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It was thousand something. I'm not sure now, the tag is off. I also bought The Red Queen around LKR 750 -800.

Nilusha Abeysekara | 7 comments First of all Amalie, thank you loads for starting this group. Really happy to be a part of this.

As for the question, I buy books constantly and the last book i bought was Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse for LKR 700 from the Lake House Bookshop.

I don't usually buy books online, but I really want to buy an e-reader. I hope i will do so soon.

Marie | 11 comments If translations buy from Weejasuriya Grantha Kaandraya bookstore. You get special discounts there. I also visit M.D. Gunasena as well.

As for books I bought Things Fall Apart and No Longer at Easeby Chinua Achebe from Indian Publishers for each around LKR 400.

I never buy online, I think it's too expensive. I haven't thought of e-readers so far.

Nilu | 17 comments buddies I only buy ebooks when the said book is not available in Sri Lanka. That's why my e-reader is useful for me :)

I read e-books but not using a reader. I usually refer sites like Classic Reader http://www.classicreader.com/browse/1...
Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/
Usually, short stories or novellas.

I don't think I'll ever use an e-reader. I have this crazy need of holding the book while I read. I NEED to flip through pages. Little insane, i know but there you have it.

As for shopping for books for Sinhala, Sarasavi and for others, Expographic.

If anyone's interested in second hand books & magazines try Warnasuriya Book Depot @ Wijewardena Mawatha, Colombo 10.

Nilu | 17 comments hey Amalie, I used to think like you and refused an e-reader for as long as I can remember. I finally caved in after getting headaches, due to reading e books on the computer. Now I can't live without my Kindle. But my first preference is physical books. Nothing beats the feel and smell of a new book :)

I haunt the Warnasuriya Book Depot too. maybe we might bump in to each other there one day.

I am also a patron of Chinthaka Book shop in Mt.Lavinia and Senanayake Book shop in Wellawatte for 2nd hand books.

Yeah, let's wear name tags or something and meet on a particular day. :D I don't think I'll find any Thundercats "people" among the earthlings at the Warnasuriya Book Depot.

Sumudu (sumudujanadari) | 7 comments First of all, thank you so much for starting this group.

I also don't like to use e-readers, becuase I want to touch and smell the scent of the book while I am reading. So I haven't bought any e-books neither read any books online.

I am a patron of Wijithayapa bookshop @Crescat

If I can't find the book I want to buy at bookshops, I buy online, mainly from Amazon.com

I bought 3 books last week.

Starters by Lissa Price
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult

When you buy online isn't it too expensive? With shipping and all. I've never considered buying online before. How long does this process take really, when you finally receive your order?

Yes, but if there are some books that I 'desperately' want to read, I buy them online. It's not that expensive if I order few books in a row. The shipping process normally takes 2-4 weeks to deliver. My recent order took 3 weeks.

Indika (1ndika) | 14 comments I think it would be a better idea for going for an Android tablet rather than an e reader. Get a pdf reader installed and you are good to go.

There are tons of pdfs to be downloaded online for free. So it'd be a much cheaper option.
