I am a series-a-holic!! (is there an official word for that?). I will definitely be participating in this part of the group.
Obviously it would be great if people who have any series that they want to discuss/recommend to those of us who love series could create a new topic with their series for discussion.
I used to avoid anything that came close to being a "series". I can't read the same author or genre twice in a row and I would lose track or the thread of the series. Plus, finding them all and reading them in order. Now though I have several going. J D Robb, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K Hamilton, not to mention that I read all Janet Evanovich "Stephanie Plum" novels and Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware novels, if you consider them series books. I am also open to suggestions. I don't read Sci-fi or epic fantasy. That really is too hard to keep up with. I also love all those cozy mysteries, and they can be read out of order if you can't find the next one in line.

I LOVE series, although I do feel obligated to keep reading the same books & authors when I'm in the middle of one. I just don't want to feel like I'm missing anything. I've read part of JD Robb's In Death series that I love but it's SOOO long!! I had to take a break from it to read other things. I've read Iris Johansen's Eve Duncan Series, James Patterson's Women's Murder Club series, and Lisa Gardner's D.D. Warren series. Loved them all and have many more that I want to read! Kay Scarpetta Series, the Alphabet Series, Harry Bosch Series, Alex Delaware series, etc.
I just started the Monster Hunter International series by Larry Correia. It's really good. If you like Urban Fantasy, or you liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (Whedon) then you'll LOVE,love, LOVE this. It's not a very cerebral read, but it sure is a lot of fun.

I've read a few Scarpetta, some really good and some not up to par.

Hamilton... and a few others, so, it looks like it could be fun.
Hamilton's pretty racy, many sex scenes, some BDSM, but the underlying mystery is still healthy.
Well, MHI is a fun read! that's all I can say. The characters are good. The story is exciting, the pace is fast to "oh, hell-nah" fast. I like Butcher and really enjoyed the second Dresden, but I have to give this the "nod." if it were a horse race. I think the comparison o Whedon is valid, but more a comparison of styles. It's just fun. I recommended it and hope anyone who reads it has as much fun as I did. The warning is, violent, and gory, but even that is well tempered and palatable.
It's goood.
I have read lots of series ranging from The McGregors by Nora Roberts to Faye Kellerman's Rina Lazarus and Peter Decker to Masie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear and of course James Patterson's two series featuring Alex Cross and The Women's Murder Club. Now I also have to add Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series and Dennis Lehane's Pat Gennaro books. But I must admit that at some point I don't continue all of the series I have begun. I find that they become pretty formulaic and I would rather be reading some fresh and new. That said I will continue to read Coben, Patterson and Winspear books because they still interest me.
My series preferences are for books that are complex- mixing politics/ action/ characters to follow/ or a consistent 'world'...Carson of Venus
Tarzan of the Apes
were what my parents read while I was in grade school
The Dragonriders of Pern was where I started...
So, my bar is set fair high. I keep going back to the fave's... Jim Butcher, Foreigner, I'm eagerly awaiting the publication of the latest!!
David Weber's Honor Harrington... or Off Armageddon Reef.
And he does more, but that is where my eyes have gone.
Diana Gabaldon Diana GabaldonOutlander
spins a mean tale... and writes deep and long.

Very much so. I'm waiting on the final Wheel of Time which has been pushed back...and back...and back. Same with the Obernewtyn books and the Spook's Apprentice. The end books keep getting pushed back.
how about the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon...this is a spectacular series....I am (impatiently) waiting for number 8 to come out!there is also the "Clan of the Cave Bear" series by Jean M. Auel
The "Tudor" and "Cousin's War" series' by Philippa Gregory
I love series as well..and am currently doing several series challengesin different groups! yes I am quite mad!!!! lol I am also going to go blind(from all the reading)!!!!! well...I hope not!
Don't you hate it when you pick up a book by an author and think it's the first book in a series only to find it's the third book. Help is on the way in the form of two websites. The first is stopyourekillingme.com for mysteries and
fantasticfiction for almost all series.
In addition to new books being published, these websites are great lists for making a list of a series books.
Are you like me and have to read a book in series order? I once tracked down a book by Richard North Patterson which was written 10 years before the book I wanted to read.
Hello, fellow series lovers. I've never thought about it but most of the series that I've read are YA or Chick-lit in genre. I blame my parents for introducing me to Narnia, Boxcar Children, Little House on the Prairie Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High, when I was a child, lol. Some of my favorites in recent years have beenCharlie Bone Series by Nimmo
Percy Jackson
Harry Potter Series
Hunger Games
Shelley Adina's series (all)
Billerbeck's Ashley Stockingdale series
Mangum's series (all)
twilight series
