*spoiler* (How do I hide this comment?)It really has been years since I've read it, so I hope I'm remembering correctly. I did love it when I read it. You feel connected to the midwife & empathise with her the whole way through, only to be betrayed at the end! It was a great twist, but I felt duped or strung along the whole way. I think it shows how well written it is.

I agree, but I didn't feel duped - I had an idea throughout the book that that may have been the case. Very well written and a fascinating story.
*may be a spoiler*I felt that the book was leaning towards an affair between Sybil and Stephen. I would have been upset if something would have materialized between them, but also, if nothing did, why add it into the book. I would love to hear others' thoughts about this.
I read this one with Oprah's book club. It's a fascinating story where I had the chance to make a choice about what to believe.
