Mel | 829 comments Ladies,

Recently, I have been feeling a little blah. In order to uplift my spirit, I have been turning to light hearted, chick-lit. These novels bring a certain comforting quality with their easy language, humor, HEA, and predictibibility.

If you too, have days when you need to cuddle up with an uplifting read, please share your favorites.

Please provide the title of the novel and the author and I will add it to the list below.

Thank you and I hope you find a book to enjoy from this list.

Hugs,

Mel

Ines (slayraa) | 684 comments This sounds like my kind of list, I'm all up to funny books. So I think you should add Joe Morelli and Ranger in Humor/Mystery from Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. It's probably the funniest series I've read and the guys help a lot.

I'm not completely sure about Ramirez in "High Heels Mysteries" by Gemma Halliday, he's funny but it's also the situation that makes him funny (at least in the 1st book).

In "The Spy who left me" by Gina Robinson, spy Ty is also funny - specially because he's working in an island where his to be ex-wife is.

And there's this short story called The Princess & the Penis that is a hilarious fairytale, but I'm not sure if the prince can be counted as funny since it sort of appears mostly as a phantom penis. I know it's an odd premise, but it's laughing out loud funny.

Even though it's not chick-lit, Ian from the Night Huntress series never fails me when it comes to funny moments.

And to finish, even though it's more for children, I just love the wizard Howl in Howl's Moving Castle. His ways and vanity make him quite a funny character and the book is lovely. He's beautiful but I'm not sure he falls into the hunk section. Anyway, I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't mention him.

Thanks Mel, I'm printing this list and carry it with me when it's more complete :)

Barbara | 10 comments I love the Bewitching Mysteries series by Madelyn Alt. I love Marcus Quinn, he's not uber macho, but he's got lots of appeal. It's been a while since I read this series, but I remember them as being humorous and definitely an enjoyable read with interesting, quirky characters. I'll be glad when the next one comes out.

Barbi, I will add it to the list. Thanks for the suggestion...I will add it to my to-read pile too. :)

Jennifer Cruise's Bet Me is one of my favorites. I like to read that when I'm feeling blah.

I loved it too! I remembered the story last night and thought everyone would enjoy it, but couldn't remember the title. So I hunted it down in my stacks of books this afternoon so I could post.

One of my favorite things about this group is how we all have such similar tastes...if someone recommends something it's pretty much a given that we'll all enjoy it!

That book looks so fun!! And Traci, I think that's one of the reasons I hang out here with you all more than anywhere else- you are all so nice, and we do all have such similar tastes in books!! Everyone making great recommendations, Mel making great lists so we can keep everything straight (woman after my own heart)... you get the picture!

Same here! At first it was about Charley and Reyes but now I think my to-read pile is basically owned by this group ;)

Sex, Murder and a Double Latte by Kyra Davis is excellent. The audio is excellent and had me dying laughing. This is the first book in a great series!

I really think you ladies will also enjoy You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister. I know you are animal lovers and there is a main character that is a St. Bernard! It's my favorite audiobook series.

Just looked it up. It is available on Amazon as an e-book but not on B&N so I will wait awhile. Enjoy, Cindy.

If you like books with funny animals try Kristan Higgins Just One of the Guys by Kristan Higgins . The dog had me LOL. It is so comical. The poor girl grew up with brothers and is rather tall for a girl so never felt feminine. It was a hoot.

Kistan Higgins All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins has a grandfather who was LOL funny too.

I have Katie MacAlister on Auto buy...I adore her!!! He's a demon who appears as a New Foundland...named Jim. He makes you howl with laughter...I loved it when Aisling accidentally lost one of his toes...*snort* (whispers) He gets it back!

I just bought the first one, Cindy. I hope I like it as much as the last series I devoured. I am in a weird mood. Only certain types of books are capturing my interest. My DH is going to blow steam out of his ears when he opens his credit card statement for this month. I keep purchasing new books and then putting them to the side because I cannot get into them.

So sad...I already have at least 150 on my NOOK to read. I hate moods like this. It SUCKS!!!

Thanks Cindy for all the great suggestions! :)

I hope you enjoy them, Candie. Higgins books take you on a roller coaster ride. I laugh, cry, and steam in all her books. She can provokes all kinds of emotion in her writing.

Oh crap, Jim is a Newfie! Oops my bad! The comic relief he provides is priceless! Between him and Magoth, I don't know who's funnier. I need to re-listen to the series!
