Personality: An optimist, she sees beauty in life- in all areas of it, in all people. She is imaginative and creative. Artistic. Though her family was poor, being tenant farmers in Ireland, she learned to read and write in both Irish and English. She has always loved to learn. She's even read Shakespeare.
Why on ship: Arlene is emigrating from Ireland to America with her sister's family of ten. She plans to get a job at a factory once she gets to America. She wants to see what the world's like. Perhaps get enough money to travel farther in than the east coast, get a job as a servant, a teacher, travel... She doesn't really have any concrete plans. Her sister's husband and her sister do of course, and their home is always open to Arlene, but she isn't ready to settle down yet.
