Tom Angleberger’s The Strange Case of Origami Yoda is an entertaining story for third to sixth graders. Just by reading and looking at the title and cover of the book the reader can see that they are about to pursue a comical story. I felt this book related to kids interests because it was about a sixth grader and the dilemma’s students at that age go through and some solutions to those dilemmas. The unique plot consisted of many side stories dealing with the “origami Yoda” that may or may not be psychic, all the side stories related to the main story of if the main character should listen to “Yoda” and its advise about a girl he likes. The writer does a good job of making all the side stories come together for a surprise ending. The author made this book funny, interesting and fast moving. The style of writing was directed toward kids completely, the vocabulary was not too complex and the dialogue in the story was written how a child in sixth grade would actually speak. As a recreational read, I felt overall that this story would be entertaining and good for learning how to approach certain problems in grade school. The illustrations throughout the book enhanced the writing and really involved the reader in the story. I do not feel this story is going to improve children’s vocabulary and understanding of writing skills.
