It will be so strange to see them against each other!!! I can't wait until I see Martin as Biblo...he'll be awesome as usual.

L I am trying to picture in my head a young Bilbo Baggins with the face of Doctor Watson!

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 47 comments I'll be picturing that anyway when I watch the movie. I wouldn't be able to picture Bendick anyway else than his normal I-am-busy-so-buzz-off face (Sherlock).

L Tolkien/ Lord of the rings quotes that i say without thinking...

"You shall not pass!" - to my family member who wants to enter my room.

"...so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Debbie (dashforcover) Hmmm. This group started before the first Hobbit film came out and now two of the three are out. And silence. So I'm gonna, perhaps, start discussion.

I loved Lord of the Rings. Although it was not 100% the books, it was still a wonderful telling of the tale.

The first film of The Hobbit left me dismayed and disheartened. It was not the book at all. OK, major characters are there, primary plot was there. But Jackson incorporated stuff from the Silmarilion and the appendices of LOTR which, for me, changed it enough to make it a totally different work. And I DID NOT LIKE IT! He made up characters not part of the book. He made up action sequences not part of the book. He made up a timeline markedly different from the book. He took a delightful children's tale and tried to turn it into another LOTR. And for me, it did not work -- AT ALL!

The second movie was better as I had already consigned myself to this not being The Hobbit but rather being a 3-part LOTR preqel. Just as with Star Wars we got chapters 4-6 first, and then chapters 1-3, The Hobbit is comparable to Star Wars 1-3 as LOTR is to Star Wars 4-6. I'll watch The Hobbit once. I bought and regularly watch LOTR. But I won't be buying The Hobbit. I'll wait for someone to come along another time and make it right. Sadly, it probably won't happen in my lifetime.

G.G. (ggatcheson) We'll, I never thought this would happen, but I fell asleep during the viewing of the hobbit part II. What a way to stretch a good book into nothing but $$$. Why 3 parts to a short book when all other LOTR books had each its movie... One movie would have been enough and more accurate. :(

I agree with Debbie. I loved LOTR movies, but not the Hooooobbbbbbiiiiiiiiiitttt... Sorry, if they can stretch it, so can I.

Debbie (dashforcover) I think it's only partly $$$. I think Jackson thought he had a reputation to live up to. When I heard he was going to direct, I was excited as he'd done so well with LOTR. I could see going into enough detail that one could make two films, but I knew it was trouble when I learned there were three. After this fiasco, the second with the tale of The Hobbit, how likely is the family to ever again grant rights to have a film made of the story?
I recently purchased the audiobooks of The Hobbit and LOTR. I'm excited to see how I like listening as opposed to physical reading.
At this moment I'm doing my annual viewing of LOTR. All 3 extended version films in one day.
