Rafael | 3 comments Hello all,
I didn't see a post related to research exactly, so I thought I would post and ask if anyone else was interested or conducting research on anything psychology (cognitive, behavioral, social, neuro...).
I'm currently taking part in a study involving religion, terrorism, and submissiveness. I have more social and cognitive research lined up as well.
I am always looking for new and interesting studies, or even old studies I just haven't been introduced to. So if anyone else is interested in research, please comment.

Rafael | 3 comments I have read up on the Milgram experiment, which I found interesting. I'll have to check for that book, though. Hopefully my school library has a copy, however it looks like a text book, so I'm not sure. Is it more or less like a social psychology text book?
And I'm curious, what other areas do you find intriguing?

About my research. The current study I'm running involves religious priming and following of a leader. We want to find out if when participants are primed with religion, they are more willing to follow a leaders decisions rather than formulate their own. So far we haven't seen an effect for that, but it's only 25 participants in.

Rafael | 3 comments I'll have to search for that book. At times I'll check out the old psychologists (B. F. Skinner, Maslow, etc...) books which read mostly like literature. They're quite nice.

And I too am intrigued by automatic and controlled processing. There is various stereotype research out there that is similar to that.

And as for my research, it has a back story. They're, in a sense, follow up studies that others have done on terrorism and religion due to 9/11. We question how and why people act in the name of religion (We are aware, of course, that it is in the name of religion, but not necessarily because that's what the religion states).
Since our university is located in an area with a high population of Christians/Catholics, we prime with words like: heaven, faith, soul; to name a few.
We also have two questionairs after the study for demographics, one for religiosity and the other for submissiveness. We do that in order to see if there is an effect for only religious, or submissive religious, or only submissive. But like I said, we still need more participants.

Marcene Grimsley | 1 comments This is a great forum idea! How is your research project going now? Last year I was involved in a project involving Women Veterans with PTSD and/or TBI. This summer I'll be working in a different project involving the blood brain barrier. We are studying to see if there is a way we can manipulate when the barrier opens and closes.

I love reading up on Psychological experiments.. which is probably why I got a degree in Psychology! There are a bunch of interesting studies I've come across in my studies. Relating to your "follow the leader" priming, there was an interesting study done on conformity. You've probably read about it but I thought I would bring it up! It was conducted back in the 50's by Solomon Asch and the principle is still used today. It's about how confederates all would give clearly wrong answers which would make the participant give the wrong answer too (since they did not realize these people were in on the experiment). Interesting stuff!

Rafael, I am very interested in this study. I haven't conducted any studies myself, but if you would be willing, I would love to be involved. You could use me a subject, a control or experiment. Send me a message to let me know more about it, if you don't mind.

Cathy | 1 comments Opening Skinner's Box, by Lauren Slater is worth a look if you're interested in famous psychology experiments, like Milgram's.
