Watched Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking on DVD. Rupert Everett plays Holmes and Ian Hart is Watson. The storyline from IMdb is A serial killer stalking the teen-aged daughters of the aristocracy brings Sherlock Holmes out of his drug-filled semi-retirement. Has anyone else seen this? I thought it was OK, but not my favorite Holmes.

This movie with Rupert Everett was the first movie I saw that had anything to do with Sherlock Holmes. It was on PBS one Sunday night. I wasn't able to compare it to anything else at the time. I remember, I wasn't all that impressed with Rupert Everett's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes though. I liked Ian Hart, I thought he portrayed a good Dr. Watson.

Not too bad for Sherlock Holmes on drugs. I agree with a comment I read that it was incorrect to have Holmes use a 7% solution during a case, in the cannon that was only his solution to the boredom that came between cases. Once the game was afoot his mind was entirely occupied with the case.

I'm on the fifth season of the Granada Sherlock Holmes for the second time around.

I watching New Earth, a series 2 Doctor Who episode with my favoritest duo, the Tenth Doctor and Rose. Lots of fun!

I just finished rewatching the series 4 season finale of Doctor Who with The tenth Doctor and Donna (who is my fave companion) as well as his children of time and I am going to rewatch *Pandorica Opens* tonight with my fave Doctor (the 11th) =)

I have seen that! I thought the mystery was a bit lacking but damn does Rupert Everett make a good looking Holmes.

I've enjoyed the first two episodes of Evidence thus far. Good interplay between Holmes and Watson characters, and I enjoy the touches of humor. Has anyone else watched it?

I am apparently in the minority, but I actually like Evidence. A modern Sherlock Holmes is naturally going to be very different that the Conan Doyle model. At that time there was no CSI units, computers or smart phones. Holmes became the CSI, learning chemical analysis, learning to indentify types of tobacco and writing papers, and developing an encylopedic knowledge of the London streets. The modern Holmes doesn't need to do all that himself because the technology is now available. His main skill should be in observation and analysis of the crime scene. Also, what modern Watson in private general practice would have the time to accompany Holmes on his adventures. The demands of his practice would not allow it. Having Watson as a paid companion to help Holmes should drug rehab is a great solution.

Three shows are "appointment TV" - Person of Interest, Elementary (I am very surprised that I like it as much as I do - in fact, I like it far better than Sherlock), and Shark Tank. DH is tearing through the "Game of Thrones" novels and just finished the first season on DVD.

At least there are three of us who like Elementary! It has become one of my favorites. J-- I'm also a POI fan and have just finished Game of Thrones, but haven't watched any on the DVDs yet. Looking forward to it.

Went to see The Hobbit on Sunday and in case you hadn't heard, Martin Freeman, Watson on the BBC series Sherlock plays the main character Bilbo Baggins and Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock from the same series, plays the Necromancer, i.e. Sauron. I don't recall seeing the necromancer as more than a silhouette, but I'm sure the role will grow.

Seeing "Skyfall" for the second time later.

I also like Elementary! After I got used to it being a crime/mystery show and not a bombastic adventure story like the RDJ movies and Sherlock, it turned out to be pretty decent.

John, I also saw the hobbit. I temporarily forgot Benedict Cumberbatch was playing the Necromancer until the silhouette. Did you see the star trek preview before it?

Yes, I did! It looked good. Too bad it doesn't come out until May. The first movie was great.

Most recently I've been watching all the seasons of "The Big Bang Theory" that is on dvd. I've never watched it before until about a month ago, I was watching a few clips of it on youtube and I just got hooked. It is one of the most hilarious shows I've seen in a long time.

Saw Jack Reacher over the weekend and thought Tom Cruise pulled it off well. I owe him an apology for doubting him. All of the other characters were great too, especially Robert Duval. It is based on the book One Shot by Lee Child. I give it a thumbs up.

Went to see Jack Reacher with my daughter and there was a scene that had us both cringing - Werner Herzog was the best villain ever - who knew?

"Ripper Street" has officially been added to my appointment TV list, and may be taking the lead, with Person of Interest slipping a bit. And last night we watched "Hitchcock". I enjoyed it, but thought the highlight was the too-brief appearance of James d'Arcy as a dead-on perfect Anthony Perkins. D'Arcy remains my favorite young Holmes in a television movie called both "Sherlock" and "A Case of Evil" - the film was so-so, but he was quite good as a twentysomething Holmes.

Watched the first season of the BBC series Jonathan Creek, starring Alan Davies. It ran for 4 seasons, starting in 1997 and had a few specials.

Creek lives alone in a windmill that's been in his family for generations. He creates illusions and magic tricks for a living, but in his spare time solves intriguing locked-room mysteries with his friend/sidekick, Maddy, a freelance investigative journalist. An intelligent and witty crime drama.

I'm one episode away from finishing the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. So good. ^_^

Good point.But I thought Watson became a writer with medicine not full time? Then he got married and only occasionally visited homes, not seeing him in a while.

Haven't seen evidence, so will take a look. Have to agree that Holmes in modern times will be different than Doyle's Holmes, because I have written two Holmes in modern times short stories myself!

Just re-watched "The Great Game", this time with commentary by Gatiss, Cumberbatch and Freeman.
Interesting stuff.

About to watch Season 3 of "Jonathan Creek" and then "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" (which includes "The Empty House") starring Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke.

I love the commentaries they include in BBC Sherlock. I wish they'd done one for Reichenbach as well. Or maybe they did, and I haven't noticed?

I'm watching Psych at the moment which reminds me a LOT of Sherlock Holmes. The main guy, Shawn, possesses Sherlock's ability to notice the tiniest things and make deductions from them, but he passes it off as being psychic. It's a great show, and absolutely hilarious :D

Just finished "The Walking Dead" season 3. Now I am trying to catch up on "Ripper Street", "Sherlock", and "Elementary". Unfortunately, my wife does not like these much, so time is limited with the TV.

I saw "Ripper Street" on DVD at a pretty good price, but I have not seen or heard much about it. I'd like an opinion from someone who has watched it. Same thing with "Copper", another one that sounds interesting. Anyone seen these?

I really enjoyed "Ripper Street". Quite good writing, very atmospheric and dark, excellent actors. I've seem Matthew MacFayden in a few things, this was my favorite of his roles.

watched iron man 3 in 3D! not mind blowing movie like avengers but surely an entertaining film!! \m/

Started watching Criminal Justice starring Ben Whishaw, Bill Paterson and Pete Postlewaite.

It's from the BBC's Criminal Justice drama series. Each series consists of 5 episodes and follows an individual through the justice system.

It won, or was nominated for, several awards (International Emmys, Royal Television Society Awards and British Academy Television Awards.)

Just saw Ironman 3 in 3-D and I thought it was the best yet. This one was a little more story and character driven, a little less Ironman, a little more Tony Stark.

John -- I agree 110%. :) Great action, great dialogue, layers of development for Tony, and some _awesome_ stuff for Pepper to do. Can't wait for this one to come out on DVD.
