I've been eagerly awaiting the new Stephen King novel, The Wind Through the Keyhole (Dark Tower 4.5). Amazon.com has been advertising it at $11.99 on pre-order. It became available on 24 April, whereupon the price changed to $17.12. (I can kick myself for not pre-ordering; would I have gotten it at the old price though?) The hard cover is $15.87 (it's come down a bit since its release). I see the new Justin Cronin, The Twelve, due October is in about the same price range -- with the hard cover cheaper than the Kindle. Now I am prepared to pay a bit more for the convenience and immediate availability of the e-book, but it seems a strange policy that could potentially backfire for publishers. I read, and buy, a lot of books. If this upward pricing trend for e-books persists, I could easily switch back to hardcovers in order to stretch my book-buying power, due to simple economy of scale. I'd probably be loathe to do this though, as I really like my Kindle. Seems like publishers are taking advantage of this.

Kobo.com and Google Play are selling it for 12.99 you might try to look there. I know their books will work on Nook and Sony but I'm not sure about Kindle because it uses mobi format, not epub.

I am in Dubai, and had a look at Kinokuniya Book Word today: the hard cover here is AED117 ($31.8!!!), which makes the $17 Kindle ebook a snip.
